I think it's a bit foolish to dismiss out of hand a converging consensus from people outside the echo chamber. And it's overwhelmingly "Conroy got mediocre to bad returns on everyone but Lindholm."
You could probably make excuses for why guys like Feaster, Chiarelli, and Milbury had extenuating circumstances for their moves too. But the perception of these guys is still there, and it doesn't come from nowhere.
The signs are a little worrisome, is all I'm saying. If you were to take out all the usual Twitter noise, the sentiment analysis for Conroy's body of work so far would not paint a pretty picture.

I think it's safe to say that if that was his intention then he epically failed.

So can you find all the examples of trades that are way better on rentals? The time to sell was last deadline but that wasn’t in Conroy’s control

Apparently Chris Johnson said the devils are gonna take another run at markstrom before the deadline.

My guess is Devils move Toffoli and then try to use those assets to take another run at Markstrom without including Mercer.

If it’s not mercer or a young center with top 6 upside then don’t bother

2024 1st from the devils
2025 1st from another team (Vegas would be amazing and hilarious)
You wouldn’t take that for markstrom??

I will post this hesitantly.
My understanding is this:
There is an ask from Conroy that is not up for negotiation....all that has already occurred.
What that ask is, people can debate but (and this is me filling in the blanks) im sure he wants Mercer and a pick.
The counter, that has already been declined, was Holtz pick/prospect.
So really if NJ wants to re-visit this, all they have to do is move off the untouchable tag on Mercer. Other wise...no deal.
But again, and now that the Flames have 2 retentions on the books, it gets more complicated as to what portion, if any, the Flames cover moving foirward. If NJ does send a Toffoli or someone else out in a separate deal it looks more doable.

Markstrom for a 1st*
* so long as the Devils want to give the first. Might be this year. Might be next. Or the year after. We'll see how they feel about it.

Lets say they get a second and a third then come to calgary with a first a second and a third would conroy bite?
If it happened along those lines then the toffoli trade could be one of the best in flame’s history

Flames could take on Toffoli for another pick to make the deal. or Mercer, Toffoli + 1st for Markstrom
Flip Toffoli before deadline tomorrow.

Conroy’s body of work is fine.
Lindholm was a home run.
Tanev was a win.
Hanifin was underwhelming.
Zadorov was fine.
Toffoli was a double at least.
All the NHL players he’s brought in are on short, cheap deals.
Sharangovich, Kuzmenko, Miromanov - these guys can all be traded at any time for positive value over the next 12-24 months.
What I like about these moves is they set up future rebuilding moves.
They don’t attempt to fix this roster in one deadline with a bunch of Hail Mary trades.
It isn’t the sexiest, but it’s measured and prudent and there’s clearly a vision behind these moves.
And don’t know how they don’t conclude a markstrom deal with everyone else now gone.
We shall see.
