Didn't Jersey also get a player/prospect in the deal?

What do you mean? Dallas paid a 4th to New Jersey to retain 25% of Tanev’s contract.

Get someone who is close to him find out what his least desired city is, that isn't on his no trade list. Trade him there then the next FA won't try to f*** us around!

How does Hanifin see tampa? Older team core is on its way out few years. Now if it's Florida I can understand but not tampa they have blown all the futures on trades.

The NBA is the NHL a few years down the road in terms of players really dictating where they play.
This train isn't going to slow down. Toot toot.

Just need the 4 year max contracts and eliminate the Ntc and nmc.

Then add 3 more years to see if you have a player from it, maybe 4. This is a ~5 year investment. That isn't planning for now, this is planning for 2030. Decent chance the front office won't even see the fruits of their labor, coaching staff will have changed, perhaps twice.

This is way better IMO. I don't expect TBL to fall off anytime soon, but you never know. TBL has top 10 protected their '24 and '25 picks when they traded them so you'd expect the same here, but if that happens then the subsequent year tends to be completely unprotected.
The hockey gods owe us one, particularly at TB's expense!

And still a pretty decent shot at a cup run for the next 3 years. Pretty nice way to let your career pay off for you.

Nope. They gave up an NCAA goalie in his senior year, whom they weren't going to sign anyway. I gather they couldn't just take on salary in exchange for ‘future considerations’.
Dallas gave the Devils the 4th for their part in the deal. Calgary got Grushnikov, the 2nd, and the conditional pick. Dallas, of course, got Tanev at 25% cap hit, plus the phantom goalie.

They're not actually old
Stamkos just turned 34 (pending UFA)
Hedman just turned 33
Kucherov turns 31 this summer (so he can probably only lead the league in scoring for a few more years)
Everyone else is on the right side of 30 (Vasi turns 30 this summer). And their cap is in great shape.
They went to 3 straight finals in the last 4 years. Bouncing in rd 1 last year isn't really indicative of anything, nor is their coasting through this season

I don't. There are 4 teams I have heard Hanifin will extend with, Boston, TB, Florida, and NJ. I think a Hanifin with an extension agreed in place + Markstrom would be a Mercer + Holz and something else deal. I can't see the Devils parting with Nemec.

If that something else is a 1st, even if it's in 2025 I'd do it

One version of the Markstrom situation was that Fitzgerald changed the terms of the deal and Conroy said no. If that’s the case why would Conroy throw him a bone to get involved in the Dallas deal to benefit? Some other team could have done the same and got the return. Doesn’t seem like something Conroy wouldn’t done if Fitzgerald screwed him over days before.

If Devils are getting Hanifin too, I don’t see how Mercer can be off the table. I much prefer Nemec if at all possible however. I’d even take Palat’s contract off their hands.
Markstrom + Hanifin + Mangiapane
Nemec + Palat + Vanecek + 1st

Friends close and enemies closer. When he really may be the only desperate GM who wants Marky and clearly the whole world can see as his team just continues to lose games because of goaltending.
