It’s done with the flames permission.
Or it doesn’t exist.

Hagel is a very good player, he is not part of the trade.

Future draft picks have plenty of value. It’s all about asset acquisition and overall franchise currency.
That 2026 1st has less value this year
More value next year
More value again the year after
You can use that pick to make a trade. You can keep the pick. You can wait and see where the lottery ball lands (if unprotected) and let the value skyrocket.
You’re buying a stock for a lower price and letting it grow.
Even if you draft the player with that pick, you can still trade that player while they are a prospect. A good franchise has strength throughout all upcoming timelines (within reason) as it increases flexibility and allows more aggression at the right moments.
Stock up. It’s the bloodline of the organization from a player and from an asset standpoint

This pretty much confirms Sec is connected to Flames management, and not scouts or player agents.

What if he is a throw in like Kuzmenko?
They can use a dman. Right now they have 4 legit dmen after the trade

He IS Conroy, wouldn't it be fun just to post GIFs of the moves you are going to make to a fan site?

NJ definitely has interest in both players. They have to come off their hold onto Mercer outlook though for any traction there.

Do you think there is any truth to the nemec rumblings? I mean, that would be amazing as a center piece to a trade.

I wish GMs thought this way, I’d rip two 1st rounders 4 and 5 years in the future instead of 1 in 3 months.
|
Because it’s about value. A first round pick that is 3 drafts away is less valuable than a pick in the upcoming draft. A pick three years out doesn’t accelerate the rebuild.
Hanifin is a top tier asset in his prime. If that’s the best you can get for him, it’s not good enough.

The NBA is the NHL a few years down the road in terms of players really dictating where they play.
This train isn't going to slow down. Toot toot.

Isn't the answer then to sign guys to longer contracts than you (may) want...and then trade them with 1 or 2 years left....sometimes to places they do NOT want to go...hardball works both directions, and serious negotiations are better done amicably.

I think so too. Someone legitimately connected and understands how to release the tidbits of information professionally and tastefully without getting into trouble... either media or perhaps someone in close administrative capacity that is somewhat linked to the Flames.
Great stuff, Sec. Keep up with the GIFs, ignore the naysayers and negative peeps here on the forum. The majority of us love what you provide and find the GIFs fun and entertaining, it makes CalgaryPuck what it is; the de facto unofficial source for anything and everything fun and exciting about the flames. It's posters like Sec that make CP what it is: Awesome.

It’s not of less value… it’s the same value, possibly better just further away

Didn't Sec say something about being at the recent draft .. Sec and dissentowner, help keep things civil and on the right track. Without those guys the forum would probably be quite unbearable and a bunch of fans feeling discouraged.

The fact that it’s 3 years away is exactly why it’s less valuable. You’re not seeing a return on trading away a top pairing defenseman in his prime for 7-8 years.
You’d have to think the Flames are hoping to compete before then.

Well it's even more unique if you follow CP for trade info/discussion. There's like 19000 insiders between here, the rest of the internet and media. It's a little convoluted and hard to follow at this point, lol.

We’ve heard so many versions of the story of why things didn’t close, but still begs the question why Conroy gave the bone of the 4th rounder for salary retention in the Tanev deal. What’s the story there?
