That's just it. If they open next year with markstrom and doggie, with one more year experience on Hughes, I'd think they are immediately a favorite.

Agreed, but didn’t Marky say he didn’t want to be approached until a deal was done, and that’s why he is upset?
I quoted a post that said the deal was done, and now you are suggesting they weren’t deep into talks or details?
It seems New Jersey had no problem getting as far as everything other than retention agreed to. Seems odd they stopped talking at that stage.

I don’t believe the offer was Holtz, 1st and a roster player.
But if it was, passing on that was a mistake. Sure, Mercer fits a need better but with all the picks and prospects you could address that later.

Devils could have 6 more points in the standings roughly if they pulled the trigger a couple weeks ago. That with the Hughes and Hischer comments, Fitz is on the hot seat all of a sudden.

They are like the Flames last year. When you know the goalies are going to constantly let you down... Every goal against is a back breaker. The Flames would play well last year to start games and Markstrom would let in the 1st shot.. and it would all go to hell.
