Right but it’s just potential at this point.

Hanifin is still young and proven as well.

We would absolutely not be adding anything to this trade. If anything 1 for 1 might work.

A guy I would target as a tertiary piece in a Hanifin deal with TB is Darren Raddysh

A guy who is trending to be a 3rd liner at the moment and we give up the best player but we add.
I said it could be a bigger deal where both sides add to even out the rental for a proven young player. Both sides add to even it out not Hanifin + for Lundell

One thing to remember is that most contending teams don't want to move roster players from their team. So I'd expect prospects and picks from a team like Florida. Lundell is an established roster player for them.

27 year old no2 dmen should be worth more than 2Cs. I’m still confused why we are insiders are saying the return will be worse than Lindholms….. I found Lindholms return to be ok. Take out Jurmo (who is not much) and the 4th, and we got a cap dump, very late 1st and a B+ prospect.

I am hoping for more quality vs quantity.

The plus doesn’t make it even. It’s makes it a lopsided trade for Florida.

Lundell hasn’t proven anything and even if he gets a chance he could show that he is just a 3rd liner like he is now.

Hanifin is still young and he’s a proven player in this league. He might even have a little more to give.

If anything 1 for 1 would feel underwhelming. I would like to see Florida add a pick to this to make it worth it for us.

Is my wording confusing/ my apologies if it is but I am saying Hanifin + for Lundell +

I could see Florida kicking in a Dman and the flames sending an asset look Rooney and the Dallas 2nd and the Panthers sending Mikkola or someone like that. Florida upgrades their blueline while weakening the middle of the ice while Calgary gets a young piece they hope turns into a cornerstone and a Dman to help insulate the loss of 3 of their top 5 from the start of the year

Oh sorry I just saw Hanifin plus, didn’t catch earlier you said Lundell and more.

Still don’t think it’s even if we are sending a pick to them. They are getting the best player.

If anything it can be Hanifin and Rooney for Lundell and 25 2nd or 26 1st if they make the finals or something.

We don’t know what Lundell will be and his numbers have gone down. They know exactly what Hanifin is and we should be compensated for that.

If Hanifin really wants to be a dink he can say he won’t sign with anyone we trade him to so we get the rental return and a he goes to Florida for nothing more than cap space in a few months. Lundell still has 4 years of team control after this season and upside as he showed in his rookie year. That is where I think we are disagreeing on the overall value. Best player is Hanifin but Lundell is the best asset in my opinion.

Hanifin needs the big money deal that takes him well into his 30’s where Lundell is years away from his peak

We probably have to lock up Lundell for 8 years and it’s going to cost a lot.

If he doesn’t pan out it’s going to be an ugly deal. We are the ones taking all the risk.

Man what a dumb trade.
Elias Lindholm has probably cost himself $20M or more this off season.

No matter who we get in return flames will be taking a risk. Flames aren’t getting blue chip sure fire prospects back in trade. It will be young players that haven’t reached their potential.

Maybe we need to take a look at why all our good FA's and players are refusing to re-sign in Calgary? Seems like the only guys we are signing are guys we have to overpay. Seeing Brady and now Elias sign deals in similiar market Canadian cities when Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Lindholm, and now Hanifin won't sign with Calgary it's concerning. Granted we probably dodged some bullets in hindsight.

90 percent it's the Dome. Flames don't really have up to date facilities for these modern athletes.

Guys practically live in these arenas. It's a huge issue.

And that’s why this rumored Conroy plan of getting young to be competitive with the new arena is so crucial. Get a young exciting team on cheap deals and then make a ufa splash for the arena opening. Players around the league will be excited for the new facility too

You’re right, but is ~30 games of a 27 no.2 defenseman worth more than 6 years of a number 2 Center at a good cap hit?
Age and control make a gm huge difference. For that reason, an extended Hanifin has a lot more value. If he’s extended, I would agree the Flames should get more.
