NSH doesn't need the cap space, so have no reason to pay something to move him, therefore it would be a situation of the Flames paying something.

Even if he signs, trading a two way defenceman for a forward (a non star one at that) isn’t an even trade. I’d want more than just Lundell.

Posted this in other thread but extended hanifin plus Dallas 2024 2nd for Lundell and 2026 1st. More chance at Gavin McKenna and flames have luxury of waiting 2 years for the draft.

You need to factor in the fact that the two way dman is a UFA to be, and that the non star forward is on an ELC and has star potential.
|

Except Hanifin almost certainly signs an extension with FLA (which would be known before making the trade), and Lundell is due for a raise in the summer.
Lundell also has 57 points in his last 129 games (.44 PPG, 36 pt pace)
Hanifin is unquestionably the better player, and - for FLA - comes locked up for 8+ years.

A guy who is trending to be a 3rd liner at the moment and we give up the best player but we add.

He’s only 22, and has the potential to be much more. Plus, he plays a very important position.
