It was, it wasn't what the team was looking for. I have said since the start of this that unless it is a vast overpayment they won't move Markstrom.

Keeping Markstrom while allowing Wolf to be 1B is the right move, IMO. This team needs to do everything it can to give Wolf the best chance of development and success.

This is a mistake IMO. Markstrom is NOT a long-term player for the team so strike while he's playing well and get the best return you can. If they pass on Holtz and a 1st as suggested, that is a big mistake and overplaying their hand.

I choose to not believe this report. Simply because it would be out of character for what Conroy has shown his plan to be, to this point. It would also send a negative message to Wolf, imo.

It doesn't send a message to Wolf if they move Vladar instead.

Yeah. Marky does nothing for this team in this window.
Really, how often does a goalie return a package like that? especially one that is 34.

I’m not convinced they need a vast overpayment to get a deal done . What they need is a young centre.

Fair point. But that hasn’t appeared to be an option whatsoever this season. I’m fine with keeping the two goalies you have because the offers aren’t up to par. What I’m not fine with, if it’s true, would be saying we’re keeping them regardless of the offers because what we have waiting in the wings isn’t good enough.
That’s not how I see Conroy doing business, so like I said, this report makes no sense to me.

And it's not like both want to re-sign but Conroy is forcing them out. Hanifin wants to go back to the US and Tanev wants a chance at a Cup.

I don't think it is. Markstrom has been great about this for a guy who has made it pretty clear he wants to stay. The fact he even considered giving the Flames the option to possibly trade him is admirable. The market is still going to be there in the offseason, there will be more teams, and more time to get what you want. You are also sending a couple of messages if you are the Flames, you are letting Markstrom know that you value him enough that you are willing to wait on a decision on his future and that you want to give him a chance to drag this team into the playoffs. You are also telling the guys in that room who have battled so hard in the second half to stay in the race that you are going to give them a chance to make the dance. that goes a long way with your vets like Backlund, Huby, and Kadri while giving some valuable pressure and experiences to the young guys.

I still think Vladar ends up in Philly, they have circled back multiple times on him.

I get it in the sense this team has battled all year and after their horrendous 2-7-1 start they are 27-18-4 which is a 97pt pace. The fact they have done this well despite trading Zadorov and Lindholm (Tanev now, Hanifin soon) they want to keep the reason they are in the mix on the team. I also agree with those who are saying this is a ploy to have other teams up their offers since they have taken less returns on the Dmen they moved out (although they nailed the Lindholm trade).
I also see this as frustrating considering if they move Markstrom in addition to Hanifin they will certainly tank hard over the final 20 games and get into the top 10 of the upcoming draft and keeping Markstrom likely results in that 12-16th pick which is a very common range for the team since 2010.

Maybe this was Markstrom's call....might've changed his mind about moving.
Flames are wanting to make it look like (publicly) that it was their decision.

Man all those juicy NJ future assets that were being discussed will be hard to let go of if they keep him.
Hopefully he can maintain his value into the summer with the loss of Tanev and also Hanifin soon.
Need to trade Vladar though then, Wolf needs to start getting regular NHL games.
