Probably not... it might let him move up and get a guy he has at the top of the tranch he's currently drafting in but it's unlikely to get him into a higher tranch.
And that's fine. Once you start to pay your top guys you need cost controlled depth to maintain yourself too.

I wonder if Chychrun being available actually improves the return for Hanifin. Like Lindholm/Monahan, if Chychrun happens to go first?

That's why you have to be okay to tank. You just can't call it that.

I wonder if Conroy uses some of the assets he is collecting to try to get Chychrun. He would help fill some of the holes created by losing Hanifin/Tanev and give them time to see if he fits in with the team. He is still young, his next contract may be around Hanifin’s, maybe a little less.

I've thought about that too. Same age range, LHS, keeps us competitive. It would be strange but not out of the question.

I hope Detroit is on in getting hanifin. They have a good prospect pool. I know Detroit is not on hanifins sign and trade list but if anybody can convince him to do a sign and trade it’s yzerman.

Great point. Also, points for using the word tranche in relation to the draft.

I have the trade itch now.
Let's just trade Hanifin and Markstrom before Saturday too and get this whole thing out of the way a week before the deadline.

I'm legit certain Kipper would love trades to go down on his jersey retirement day to take the focus off of him

Having deadline day being somewhat entertaining would be nice. I have a feeling Hanifin will be dealt between Sunday-Thursday and they will grind on Markstrom and some other guys or be a surprise buyer on a Hronek style move is my guess.
Mangiapane, Markstrom are the 2 guys I am looking at moving in addition to Hanifin.

Well, not blue chip prospects, but you can absolutely get elite NHLers in any round. It's less likely after the first, but it does happen.

Even if Mangiapane and Marsktrom don't get moved, with Hanafin gone, Conroy has dealt with all of the pending UFAs except Kylington who likely will be re-signed.
Pretty tidy work if you ask me.

This week and next week have little breaks in the calendar to get some deals done. That way the Flames can still get a practice or two in and remain competitive, which is what Conroy alluded to.

I don’t have any desire to move Mangiapane unless it is a big overpay. Top 4 forward league wide in even strength points last year, top 2-3 forward this year in even strength points. 84th in the league over the last two years at even strength scoring. Higher than guys like Brad Marchand, Chris Kreider, Seth Jarvis. If a team is going to overpay for him sure, but no real need to move out a fairly elite even strength points producer.

Agreed and all the trades have worked out to be decent. I hated the Toffoli trade because the main piece back was Sharangovich but I was wrong on that and he can probably get a second back or more.
Lindholm trade I liked from day one. I think he got fair value on Tanev and Zadorov but I am surprised no team overpaid for Tanev.

Hence the statement of " Rarely do you get either outside of those bands." Rarely, inferring the occurrence is limited and not happening with any regularity. The odds of such an event happening are very small.

Seems like there continues to be smoke about Kyrou in St Louis and a potential move this summer. What would that kind of trade look like? He’s 25. Signed long term for 8.125M. If I’m Conroy I’m taking a good run at him this summer

Haha outside if the English lesson from you Lanny I very much agree with what you are saying. Barring a big drop in the standings, the Flames are unlikely to get into the top 7-8 in this draft and will likely not be in a position to trade for blue chip “A” prospects either.
I think the way Conroy is handling this is the best he can do. And he’s adding a lot of bullets to the chamber. The Flames are likely a top 5 drafting and developing team at the moment so I’d say this approach gives the Flames the best odds to hit one of those rare elite players, and with more picks they might swing for a few more fences as well.
A top 5 pick would be ideal, but pending some serious lottery luck it just isn’t in the cards for 2024
