I like this trade. Grushnikov seems intriguing and it sounds like if he hits he becomes an ideal partner for one of the young offensive dmen the Flames have in the system. An early pick, maybe a second pick if we're lucky.
I like the way this team has been drafting recently. I like the idea of getting them more kicks at the can while also getting a young guy they clearly like and helps fill a need in the Flames system.

Interesting statement. I wonder what type of prospect(s) the Flames could have got for Tanev if that is all they received, and no picks.

I don't see this as Jersey doing us a solid, I see it as them trading $1.2M in cap space for a 4th. Seems reasonable.

3rd round pick is pointless, Flames are going to the finals anyways.

Kind of expected better tbh for Conroy to pull the trigger 8 days before deadline and with original ask of a 1st.

I think it's very possible Conroy/Flames front office over rates defensive prospects in the mold of Grushnikov and if there were similar 2nd round + prospect offers... They may have picked a different package then I would but I suspect that's was the going rate for Tanev.

Their shipping players off to the Oilers playoff competition is pretty delicious. Dallas and Vancouver getting better probably makes the Oilers that much more desperate to improve too. I bet they ship off their 1st in an overpayment for a consolation prize D that won't help them nearly as much as Tanev.

Pretty full cart of defensive prospects all of a sudden, so I say go forward heavy with all these draft picks this year. (Aside from best player available with the highest 1st)

I think guys like Manson and Tanev should be worth more, but that seems to be the going rate.

Helleson was at least a tier of prospect above Grushnikov though, he was looking really good in college when he was traded. Hasn’t panned out but was definitely held in high regard at the time. I recognize that it’s pretty comparable though.
I am holding out hope that the a scouts found a Unicorn in Grushnikov, that profile of player would be good.
I will say this trade is an absolute personal win if I don’t have to watch Poolman for rhe Wranglers any more. He is so frustrating.

Some of the proposed trade/fan expectations were completely out of whack. I was hoping they could pry Dellandrea loose, but maybe come summer. They sold a pending UFA for some picks, hopefully they get the Conditional 3rd if the Flames don't make the playoffs.
Should alleviate the concern that it's playoff revenue or bust for the Flames.

Jersey bought a 4th round pick for peanuts (1/4 of what Tanev is owed for the rest of this year)

Meh, these guys also a year ago in fantasy trade proposals sent into them said that if they had Connor McDavid on a team and Colorado offered MacKinnon and Makar for him they would say no.

The 2nd is fine, but Grushnikov has a Brett Pollock of defenceman vibe to him. Hopefully he pans out but I looked through Jim Nill's trade history and he does not trade away prospects that have good NHL careers.
Nick Paul is the last good prospect that I could find Dallas trade away and that was for Spezza. Grushnikov and a very unlikely third round pick aren't much to be excited about.

I’m fine with the return. Obviously no one was offering a 1st since we’ve already waited a month+.
Onto Markstrom and Hanifin where I would expect 1st rounders.

Multiple draft picks and a wildcard prospect in Grushnikov – seems like a pretty fair value for an often-injured 34-year-old UFA. Good luck to Tanev. Total warrior out there. Dallas will love having a guy like him in the playoffs, no doubt.

How did they rate the Toffoli trade? Pretty much the same way IIRC.
