You can't teach skill either. You can manufacture defensive and two way players with coaching but if a player isn't offensively gifted he's never going to be a star or franchise player.

Are we expecting the Flames to magically find 2nd and 3rd rounders that are big and skilled?
The reason you draft big in those rounds is hoping the skill is developed later. Most of the time it isnt but occasionally you get a late bloomer and a steal.
You can't teach size
You get Hunter Smith in the 2nd rounds and later.
That’s why it’s better to go for skill players, what point is it to draft someone just because they are huge. You can’t teach skill. You can trade the skilled players for a bigger player later on.
They premised the trades by stating that the most interested teams don't have much to offer. May be the reality of the market.
I get that, but even then I would hope our GM tries harder to extract more than whats there and even work on a sign and trade with comparable markets to the one Noah maybe seems intent on.
The trades suggested by the Athletic have a "I give up, guess we'll take what we can get" vibe.

GMs need to think more outside the box in this sport. The Flames will need extra picks in 2025, 2026, 2027 and beyond. Extra picks are never bad, so if a team doesn't have their 2024 1st rounder, take one in the future. The further into the future you go, the better chance the current top teams are on the downswing and you could get a top 10 or even top 5 pick.

I kind of hear what you are saying, but, if you were to sign him and then trade him to somewhere he doesn't want to go would be a real Hackey type of move. I'm also pretty sure he wouldn't sign anything without knowing where he was going. I wouldn't, I'd just shut down all signing talk until free agency if that sort of crap started happening.

Agreed. The Oklahoma Thunder strategy.

They aren’t great but if dissentowner info is correct a sign and trade might be out of the question with 3 of those teams. I personally think it’s going to be hanifin traded for a rental price. For me that’s a first and 2nd. Maybe a c prospect thrown in there also.

No, it would obviously be working hand in hand with Hanifin. Couldn't do it otherwise.

Those big fast skilled guys are rare.
No kidding that's what I said. They go early in the draft
But people want the Flames to get big and skilled players late ... Somehow.
They can only control one of those things - Drafting Big.
Big players drafted late occasionally turn out to be studs- Jamie Benn
You can teach skill to an extent - You can improve skating and shooting still at 18.
You can not teach someone to grow (although there are surgeries now!)
I do not remember a small skilled guy being drafted and growing 6 inches but I can certainly find examples of large guys 'becoming' skilled and outplaying their draft position.
I am not advocating for going size over skill - But if you want BOTH you better finish low in standings or draft later for size and attempt to develop - its the only way you get those guys
