Yup. They are either signing extensions or being traded

I'm confident that the Flames will deal Tanev and Hanifin (Markstrom will stay) it will create a big gap on the backend but others will step-up enough for us to sneak into a WC spot.

The same goes for Tanev, Markstrom, and any other player who doesn't fit in long-term.
That is why the comment of overplaying one's hand. Have a plan and execute. Yes, plans need to be malleable, but not to the point of causing them to fail. Understand where your commodities fit into the larger plan and recognize when it is time to move them. When you have an over-performing asset like Hanifin and Markstrom, who will not be here for your planned 2027 debutant ball, move them and get the assets that will move the team forward. Getting a possible future core player out of a Markstrom trade is one that should be leveraged. Don't overplay it by asking for more when you get that possible core piece. If the Flames could turn Markstrom into just Holtz or Mercer (most likely Holtz) that is a core piece for the next six to ten years for a player that will be long out of the game ion the same window. That's a huge win. Turning Hanifin and Tanev into assets that fill gaps is just as important and can't be overplayed like some are suggesting (taking it to the wire to possibly squeeze teams). This will be a transformative trade deadline for the team one way or another. This can't be screwed up.

You honestly think Conroy or anyone in the management group would find the above to be something they haven't thought of?
They are managing the pressure points of what that market is ... is it evolving into less of a seller's market? Are there less sellers now than they envisioned?
At some point they probably have plotted out when they will reduce their asking price for their assets based on how many players they have left to move, and the proximity to the deadline.
Any time you are buying or selling something you reach the point where you move your price for fear of not getting it done. I would hope that they have that all mapped out and they're not driven by panic or emotion.
So far we have no reason to believe that isn't true.
They are playing their hand. They did extremely well with Lindholm with the same principles.
I don't see any evidence that they are overplaying anything.

Price wasnt met, player wasn't approached to waive NTC, and now that team has floundered and is further away than the Flames are from making the playoffs now.
For NJ that trade to happen two weeks ago. It didn't.

Why are you so confident of this?

100% agree. We need to wait for something to come up with a Hanafin trade to get excited about. Tanev too but that will be much less return.

I wonder if Hanifin (extended) for Lundell would be a possible deal for the Panthers.

Nah, if TB wants to send us a pick 2 years from now then they can send it unprotected. You want “now” results, then you get to pay at the expense of future asset(s) without conditions.

Gotta think any trade with NJ is dead after today.
For me the interesting trade partner for Hanifin would be with Detroit. IMO Markstrom is going nowhere.

Fitzgerald is an incredibly mediocre GM. Blowing a window to be competitive with that young core is on par with what Edmonton’s management has accomplished. Zero goalies available on the UFA market this year so unless he trades for one he has to roll the same terrible goalies next year. Impressive to watch.

I would think if NJ trades for a goalie, that addressed an area of weakness.
Its more a plan, not a short term fix

Now we know why Fitz was nervous.

Coleman is the guy that needs to go ASAP. He's playing lights out and is exactly what team looking to make a deep run needs.

That is true. Have to suspect the ask for Ullmark is Mercer or Holtz plus maybe a pick. Doubt the Bruins are trading him for futures, they will want a player who can play now.

Tampa definitely isn't using Jeannot as a throw in after nearly paying a whole draft class for him last year
