I haven’t read through everything so I missed anyone saying up the offer, but I would treat that like the idea of keeping Hanifin and trading Andersson: it’s nonsense.
On Andersson, you hear the way he talks and this is a guy who is future captain material. He’s super underrated here and sounds like a guy who actually wants to be here, is close in conversation with Conroy and Huska, and goes to bat for his team.
Trading him is the kind of move that takes the air out of a room. We’re trying to build contender here and sure, you need to make moves to build the talent to achieve that, but this would be an Andrew Ference like trade except you’re dealing a player that is that much better to go along with those “intangibles.” Huge mistake imo. Run with Weegar/Andersson/Kylington through the transition and this team is going to be in great shape.

One thing I do wonder is the future of the salary cap. Obviously a different stratosphere but the NFL salary cap went up way over expected this year after being kept down artificially with the covid paybacks. If the cap ends up going up more than expected either this year or next... Are you willing to increase the offer a bit.
Probably still doesn't get done.. But something to consider for guys and their upcoming contracts.

I think that fact is already fully baked in to offers. It isn't like agents aren't aware of it - it's literally their job.

The same goes for Tanev, Markstrom, and any other player who doesn't fit in long-term.
That is why the comment of overplaying one's hand. Have a plan and execute. Yes, plans need to be malleable, but not to the point of causing them to fail. Understand where your commodities fit into the larger plan and recognize when it is time to move them. When you have an over-performing asset like Hanifin and Markstrom, who will not be here for your planned 2027 debutant ball, move them and get the assets that will move the team forward. Getting a possible future core player out of a Markstrom trade is one that should be leveraged. Don't overplay it by asking for more when you get that possible core piece. If the Flames could turn Markstrom into just Holtz or Mercer (most likely Holtz) that is a core piece for the next six to ten years for a player that will be long out of the game ion the same window. That's a huge win. Turning Hanifin and Tanev into assets that fill gaps is just as important and can't be overplayed like some are suggesting (taking it to the wire to possibly squeeze teams). This will be a transformative trade deadline for the team one way or another. This can't be screwed up.

Looking at the stats for Holtz , what’s the big attraction? He had one great year in junior other than that meh.

This year can be considered Holtz rookie season, he’s clipping at near a half point a game but in his current slump of 1 goal/point in his last 12 he was actually clipping at half a point a game while playing mainly 3rd line minutes but occasionally finding himself both up the lineup in the top 6 and also on the 4th line at times. Connor Zary is having a fun rookie season, and is a solid comparable IMO and Holtz has been an even better scorer in the AHL than Zary. He’d be a fantastic addition.

You're crazy.
Someone offers their asset for $1M, and you have a similar asset, you don't offer it for $500k, you offer it for $950k
It has been reported multiple times that Jersey prefers Markstrom to Saros, and Brodeur came right out and stated it publicly - it is a fact that they think Markstrom is a better fit for their organization. He also has one more year on
his contract. (yes, Saros is younger).
Carrier is younger than Tanev, but Tanev is better.
Overall, a Markstrom-Tanev package is, at worst, pretty similar to a Saros-Carrier package, and arguably better. NSH asked for Mercer + Casey + Schmid + 2024 1st + 2025 2nd
So why would you ask for Mercer + 1st? The ask should be something like Mercer + Casey + 2024 1st + 2025 3rd. Let them keep Schmid, and if need be, let them keep the 2025 pick (though I wouldn't).
But no way do you drop Casey, Schmid AND the 2nd from the deal. That's just horrible negotiating.

Sorry, I'm not all up to date on information. Where was Nashville's ask publicized?

12 days till th deadline. Still pleanty of time. But, I am a bit concerned now. I hope that Conroy isn't just going to push for a playoff spot and screw this chance up.

If the Devils loose today I think they reevaluate things this summer. Markstrom ends up somewhere else.

There's no other real rumors to talk about, which is why the Markstrom thing still has legs. One team, a few weeks ago, made an inquiry, and that got out (when it shouldn't have been made public, clearly, but some agents and media can't help themselves).
Price wasnt met, player wasn't approached to waive NTC, and now that team has floundered and is further away than the Flames are from making the playoffs now.
For NJ that trade to happen two weeks ago. It didn't.

This is is going to be interesting don't think flames make it to the playoffs but would be stupid to let Noah, tanev to walk for nothing. Best thing is to cash in retool

I would put the chances the Flames let Noah and Tanev walk for nothing at almost zero.

Holtz looking good today finally playing with Hughes.
1st + Holtz for Markstrom is a good deal. If they throw in Vanecek and ask for 25% retention, I’m fine with just a 2nd.
I’m not sure what was on the table though. Throw them Greer or Rooney and Gilbert for free.
