The players have worked hard? Some yes, but certainly not all, or the Flames would not be under achieving so badly.

If they are surprised with any trades of that sort, I'd be pretty confused.
Players aren't giving up and have worked since the summer and work every off season to make the playoffs and try to win each and every year...with the right combo of wins tonight they are 1-3 points out of the playoffs...with 24(!)games to go.

2 of the last 4 SC finalists were 8 seeds in the conference.

It's not being selfish to not GAS as a player where this team might be in 3 year right now. Said players may not be a part of this team then.

The fixation on Markstrom is misguided at this point. Some agent blabbed when he shouldnt have a few weeks ago about the Devils interest. Price wasn't met then, Markstrom hasnt been approached, and, since then the Devils have slipped a bit. No other team shown interest in him. Flames have had a bit of an uptik too.

It would be a hurt to the dressing room, and, to be fair, a lot of players and agents pay attention to how teams treat their players. Sooner than later when this team reloads they will need players to want to come here, not just because they are on the upswing, but also because they treat players on the team right.

Pulling Markstrom out of this lineup as team MVP when they are working hard each night since basically November, would be a kick in the teeth for all the players in the room for anything less then a massive trade which isn't full of magic beans.and would still give them a chance this year.

It took them all of October to learn to play a zone defence smoothly as a unit. Zary and Pospisil were called up and found instant chemistry with Kadri, but it took longer for the other lines to get sorted out. Huberdeau didn't mesh with anyone until they put Sharangovich on his line, and Lindholm was a square peg until they traded him.

I'd say they haven't really underachieved at all. It just took a long time, and several roster changes, to assemble a room full of players into a team. Since the 2-7-1 start, they have been playing .575 hockey, which is about what I would expect given the talent available.

They're a reasonably good team, but not good enough to get themselves out of the big hole they dug in October.

As per Friedman, Martinez went down with an injury right at the end of the period for Vegas, could be yet another contender looking for D help soon

Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.

This organization needs to raise the bar when it comes to expectations, and the vast majority of the players on this roster and in this room won’t be here and/or won’t be key parts of a top tier team.

The “mojo” of this room isn’t worth caring about. Progress at all costs.

That's the last thing the Flames need right now. That, and him getting hurt.

Smart move to rest him tonight.
That confidence must be so strong if the Oilers can destroy it in one game.

Trade, please!

Flames were 2-7-0-1 after Nov 4. They were terrible then.
Picked it up through November.

They are 25-17-0-4 since and lost some points (Leafs, Oilers Blues) games in a row come to mind, just before the break where they played as better or better overall then the opponent. Same in late November and December.

I feel like this string of words basically encapulates the team in general.

Tired of it... I want to see greatness not reasonably goodness.

Unfortunately we have a goaltender who might lose confidence by playing the Oilers.

There are no Gilmour, Regehr, Fleury to put the fear in them.
