Coleman-Backlund-Holtz
That's a line that get minutes, mentors a kid to play the right way(like they always do), and keep other lines intact.

Mangiapane and Kuzmenko are easily short terms stand ins for younger players with cheap cap hits.

Long and short of it for me, I'm happy with Mercer or Holtz.
The fact they might trade Marky before the deadline is just icing on the re-tool cake.

Wonder how Conroy will handle the room after trade deadline.

I think like Lindholm all the players know Hanifin is gone. But Tanev and Markstrom sound like they are the heart of the team. Think it’ll be a tough one for moral if they both go. I get that it’s pro sports and it takes two to tango. But you have to show some loyalty.

I think trading Markstrom could kill the room, especially hearing how the players talk about him. The players will probably be more forgiving of a Tanev trade because they get it, he is a pending UFA. Markstrom doesn't need to be traded and doesn't really seem interested in it, even if he is willing to accommodate one. If Markstrom goes, they will probably be a little pissed that they worked so hard this season just to be thrown into what would be an obvious tank job. I doubt they give one hoot about higher draft picks.

If thy trade Markstrom and the room gets pissed they should take a good long look in the mirror for wasting a beautiful performance of a season from their goalie.

It's 100 percent on them that they're not in a playoff spot on the back of a top 3 performing goalie this year. .

Ef that noise, lose the room....they lost it themselves.

Ehh if anything, I feel like the team is exceeding expectations with regard to their record. I thought for sure we would be bottom 10

That line looks awesome to be honest. I prefer Holtz to Mercer a bit.

Ummm...They're the tenth last team right now.

If they get pissy because the team trades Markstrom, trade them too. The players are the reason this team is where it is, trading Markstrom, and Hanifin, and Tanev, and anyone else, will improve the team long term. If they really care abiut the team, that should help. If they're sad because they want to be on a contender now, ask for a trade.

With Markstrom taking a maintenance day not that long ago, I tend to believe that it's just load management. No point in breaking him if they are trying to trade him. Facing the Oilers in particular isn't a great way to showcase him either if he is nursing something.

I don't question the effort of most of the players on most nights. I think they are trying hard, but just don't have the horses. Lindholm is really the only guy that seemed disinterested, and he is gone.

Markstrom has a history of getting lit the eff up by the oilers and then losing confidence.

That's the last thing the Flames need right now. That, and him getting hurt.

Smart move to rest him tonight.

I'd be more concerned with the fact that players have no concept of where this team is at if that's the case. Surely they understand this is not the window of contention for this team and trading for young assets and futures in order to compete 3-4 years from now is the strategy. If they are surprised with any trades of that sort, I'd be pretty confused.

After watching the superbowl fallout, and some of the NBA trade deadline, I begin to understand that many professional athletes have the mind of a small turnip. And don't call me, Shirley.
