I think pretty low. Can’t imagine there’d be this much smoke if Conroy didn’t know if he’d waive. Although, I guess it’d explain if things died out

Well that makes it interesting because I heard Mercer was part of the deal and Holtz was not. Thanks for sharing, will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Pacioretty was traded for Suzuki.
Giroux was basically traded for Tippett.

I'm not opposed to this kind of trade - even if they are risky. And it should be noted that for most of these trades, the team sending the prospect also added a pick or another minor piece.
Don’t disagree with your general premise but Zibanajed was a proven entity. He had 51 and 46 points the previous two years, virtually the same as Brassard. The Sens made that trade because Melnyk was cheap as #### and Brassard was way cheaper in terms of real dollars than Zibanajed was going to be. Terrible trade because of a terrible owner.

I still think Frost is a target (maybe in offseason) the Flames should go hard after.

Holtz was definitely part of it.

And I am saying Mercer was definitely part of it. Again, people hear different things. I guess we will find out if he gets traded.

Could also be as simple as the price for retention being Holtz on the Devils side and Casey on the Flames' side.

I'd much prefer Mercer + Casey over Mercer + Holtz myself.

I’m honestly fine with either one. Getting 2 young pieces, regardless of position would be huge. Maybe holtz or coronato ends up getting moved for a pick or a dman then.

For sure. Was just pointing out that could be why Diss and Transplant are both certain Mercer & Holtz were involved. From a negotiating standpoint, could be the easy reason for the holdup (i.e. the Flames are pushing for Casey but have a deal for Holtz on the table from NJ that they can come back to at any point. Who flinches first?).

I hope holding out for a 5’9 160 lbs dman is not the reason there is not a trade. I am not really big on Holtz but would rather have him than Casey if the choice was between the two of them and that was the hold up.

I think it's definitely Mercer OR Holtz, not both.

Also, if Mercer is already on the table for Markstrom, even with retention, I feel like that's a pretty good deal regardless of what the additional pieces are? Why are we holding up the deal over Seamus Casey (if that's what's implied)??

If Conroy can leverage retaining 50% for Mercer + Casey, it would be a homerun IMO.

Adding a couple of "lottery ticket" type of offensive Dmen in Brzustewicz and Casey would be really exciting.

I’d say a 1st + Casey for Markstrom is a home run, with or without retention. Mercer instead of that 1st? Yeah, that’s a grand slam.

I think trading Markstrom is the best bit of business Conroy could do right now. We’re talking about a 34 year old goalie who sewered our series against Edmonton and the entire following season. Yes, he’s back to playing top tier hockey now - but he’s 34 and there’s two years left on his deal, and neither of those years are going to be this teams “year”.

If we can really land two (or more) solid pieces in return while clearing a path for Wolf? That’s a big win for Connie. This organization is shifting towards rewarding youth, and Wolf has earned his spot at the NHL level - they have to get him up to the show, and one game every two months does no one any good.

I hope it's Casey so I can call him the "wee baby Seamus".

Trades including Mercer and Holtz for Markstrom or trades like Markstrom (retained) + Rooney for Mercer + Casey + Siegenthaler + 1st + 2nd are EXTREMELY optimistic.

I'm not even sure when a package that valuable has been moved...
You may as well be asking for a hughes, nemec or hischer.

I'd be happy if we got Mercer + 2nd back.

Sure hope fans temper expectations on Markstrom trade. Returning Mercer + Casey + 1st? Jesus, that just cannot be the value - the logic isn’t there.

Markstrom @ 50% retained for Mercer straight up would be a great trade for the Flames. I’m skeptical of that - so think it would be Holtz and a late pick.
