would covering them up draw even more attention than just leaving it be until the trial is over? i don't know

The choice of reason is leave it up. Despite the accusations Canada is still innocent until proven guilty. If theyre found guilty then permanently remove it properly. I have zero issue with that.

They were guilty enough for Hockey Canada to settle in a civil court proceeded but not beyond all and any reasonable doubt yet. Until there is zero possibility that they did not do it I guess the painting stays up.

Civil settlements dont sway the needle towards guilty or not guilty. Hockey Canada also likely could of settled quickly to avoid the story coming out than any perceived guilt.
Im disgusted too. I have a young daughter and the thought of something like this happening to her is a scary thought. I also have a son, and the thought of him being deemed guilty before his day in court and being dragged through the mud scare me as well.
Its okay to be outraged at how HC handled this. But the time to tear down these boys will come in due time if it comes to that. I see no reason to rush it because a small amount of people want to jump the gun on the process.

I agree with all of your posts, the only thing that's a bit tone deaf to me is the President/GM's response. "We'll await to see what happens in court" sounds a little better than ""I'm not getting caught up in this".

You’re not wrong, but he’s a WHL GM, not a PR guy or a lawyer. He’s being dragged into this story for almost no reason at all. The Kelowna Rockets have nothing to do with any of this. I think Rick Westhead is the most important reporter in hockey right now but this particular angle just seems like rage-bait which I feel is beneath him.
Let’s cut him some slack.

You conveyed the thought much more succinctly. Nice pull.

I for one would like to see as many people take the fall over this as possible, even those who were time zones away from the actual assault, and who didn’t spend Canadian taxpayer dollars protecting those who actually committed the assault. If someone stumbles over their words over this, they too should get a trial and jail time. No one is safe.

I think k given 2 recent members of his team were involved in this it might be fair to ask him how the Rockets organization is working to change the culture of hockey.
When specifically those murals come down isn't important, but changing the attitude of players in the future so this doesn't happen again is.

The Rockets do and don't have nothing to do with this. Yes it happened on Team Canada's watch, but both players had recently graduated from the Rockets team when it happened. All junior teams could do better to change the culture that contributes to an event like this.

How far do you want to cast your net?
School system
Parents
Coaches in minor hockey
Minor hockey associations
The internet
The doctor that delivered them
If they did the crime. They will do the time. No one forced them to do anything.
That’s why we have a legal system.

I think if they were to just take down the plaques that have the names and accolades that probably is a good enough start.
Don't need to start painting over walls or anything.
