This Tanev talks remind me when people said we would get C prospects and 2nd round picks for Lindholm.
Based on what is being said our players have a ton of value in the market. Our goalie could net us a haul.
We just need to be patient and let Conroy get this done.

I don't think the Guentzel injuries impact his trade value. He will be back after the deadline and will help a playoff team

With Guentzel going down, and all the recent Tanev "scares"...perhaps we come to a conclusion on these potential trades sooner rather than later as Conroy loses his appetite for risk?

I'm not saying the Flames would need to give up their own 2nd round pick. We could get a 2nd round pick or two upon trading Hanifin.
But Tanev + 3rd for Toronto's 2024 1st round pick still seems like a win for the Flames to me.

I always find adding draft picks to a deal to acquire a higher draft pick an interesting study in valuation. Do teams value that pick on its own? Meaning, at face value adding a 2nd to Chris Tanev to get Toronto's 1st doesn't sound completely unreasonable, but when you consider that, if it's Calgary's 2nd, there could only be 15 to 20 picks separating the 1st and the 2nd. Is moving up 15 spots worth Chris Tanev? Now I don't really think so.
Then again draft picks aren't exactly linear in value, so maybe the Flames see a player in that grouping that they really want, so its worth it to them.
Anyhoo, when multiple picks are involved going back and forth, I find it interesting to try and evaluate the valuation.

Don't give Holland this idea!
He's too dumb to come up with it on his own.

Jake: "Nah, it still hurts".
Tell me - who do you think is on his 12 team NTC list? Keeping in mind he's an American.

If he's shut himself down for the rest of the regular season to heal up various aches and pains so he can go in 100% health to to a playoff team that he thinks could win by adding him, he might be dumb enough to waive to go to the Oilers.

If nobody ponies up more than a 2nd, I hope Conroy holds onto Tanev just to shove it to guys like Treliving who think they can pull a quick one. In a year with limited Dmen, he should be going for a premium. It's hard to believe 18 or so teams aren't falling over the chance to get him for the playoffs, where traditionally guys like him is exactly what every team needs.
As for Pittsburgh's Guentzel situation, that just means the value goes up for our guys. Ownership has really f'd themselves in Pittsburgh by doubling down on their core and adding to it this off-season with Karlsson. They very well may be in a worse situation than the Flames because they'll refuse to deal Crosby, Malkin and Letang, and truthfully outside of those guys I don't think they have much worth anything for the future. By some accounts written last year those guys have been large voices on keeping it going. They have to take a back seat and let the GM do their job and rebuild, and that comes with trading some or all of them.
