On the topic of Tanev, I have to think any team that is willing to up their offer to a 1st, is going to want an add from the Flames, for it all to come together.

I wonder what the add would be? A 4th? 5th? B prospect? Ben Honowski? Rights to Theo Fleury?

I could see the Stars as well. Their window is open now, and they already have a good group of prospects they can pencil in to refresh the lineup over the next 1-3 years. But Conroy might prefer prospects to the pick.

I'd wager on the stars being willing to deal a conditional 2nd/1st.

Right now Toronto's 1st round pick would be 20th overall. That's a fairly high 1st round pick for a buying team.

I think the Flames would have to give up a 2nd or 3rd in addition to Tanev to get the value to work.

Just heard on Kyper and Bourne that Jake Guentzel is out for at least 4 weeks due to injury.

We are not adding to Tanev to get a 1st.

I hope he gets a 1st, but that trade for Chiarot was nuts and never made sense. Florida regretted it almost immediately.

And a trade in a previous season is certainly a data point, and a good place to build a package comparison.

But markets change.

Especially if said market resulted in an over pay.

If Toronto plans to get Tanev and still finish in the same spot, there is no point in making a trade.

From all accounts if Conroy wants he can get a 2nd for him no problem. Not sure how adding a valuable 2nd pick would be fair to get a 1st. That 1st and 2nd most likely will be what 10-15 picks apart? That's virtually giving Tanev away to climb up a few spots in the draft.

Sure, but there's no way conroy is giving up our likely high second round pick for Toronto's low 1st and they get tanev. That's crazy.

Guentzel and Ristolainen both being hurt means the Flames need to get moving here, don't want to risk the same thing.

Tanev is worth more than the difference between a 2nd and a 1st in the 20s.

Conman would get thrashed if that's what he came up with after waiting patiently for months to make the deal.

He's the hottest commodity on the D market. He should get a smaller haul than Lindy, but still a haul.
