Well, if Toronto doesn't want to trade their 1st or any actual good younger player or prospect, then that's all he's getting this year too

I can live with that.

Noah is a solid #2 defender who continues to get better and can be considered a core piece moving forward. Nothing wrong with that deal at all.

Anderson hopefully signs for around the same amount when his deal comes up also.

Anderson will be 29 when it’s time to re-sign. If flames sign hanifin to long term contract they better not do the same with Anderson.

Sign Hanifin because it’s good value/asset moving forward. Don’t sign him because you need a #2D and overpay.

The harrumphing about the flames in here is pretty funny; it’s honestly a win win for the flames whether they sign Hanifin or trade him and why are we even talking about Andersson when he’s still 2 years away from an extension?? The flames have had lots of recent, even current, examples of dmen playing at a high level into their mid 30s so I don’t get the big deal. Any other trades Conroy makes - and he will most likely make more here down the stretch - is gravy on top of what has already been a great showing this fan base isn’t quite used to seeing. Let the man cook if you will, still 3+ weeks to the deadline and Conroy has already demonstrated some savvy tactics as GM so far!

what if they've retooled by then and are a playoff team/division contender again? can't really predict 2 years out

Ah makes sense.
Rather contradicting comment. If Conroy sees him as expendable, why are they talking business? Are they still negotiating a contract, or are they negotiating a trade with teams he's will go to and sign?

Sign and trade would be what that post is hinting towards.

If Markstrom would go to Buffalo…

American center one year from UFA, could be this generation of Flames fans Chris Drury.

I would think it would be pretty similar to the hronek trade, 1st + 2nd.

Or they would be looking to package him for a top 4 RD like weegar or andersson, which I doubt we would consider.

If the flames keep rolling it will be interesting if they consider a longer term buy like Middlestat after they complete their sell off of ufas

If we can get another 1st from a Tanev or Hanifin trade, it makes sense to use some of the assets Conroy has acquired from the trades to pick up a younger NHL player who has been underutilized. Mitlestad seems to fit that pretty well.
