Sure you can, it just takes a couple years. Plus people overrate how impactful all these guys are. Exhibit A = Lindholm trade. Everybody thinks he’s “way better” than the guy coming in.
Is he really?
Exh B, all the new kids coming up from the farm generally outplaying their peer group in the NHL. Like, these NHL jobs shouldn’t just be given to people based on history exclusively.

Have you perused the packages drummed up by Leaf fans on that particular situation?
1st, Abbruzie (SP?) , Timmons, some other bits and bobs for fully retained Hanifin and Tanev. The only thing of value they offer is the 1st.
IMO, it should take, 1st, Lijegren, Knies, Niemala, Minten.
Hanifin alone needs at least 3 of those pieces.

If it's an extended Hanifin, with retention this year on both players, the return should start with a 1st & Knies and expand from there.

I haven't, aside from Toronto fans within my hockey pool.
They mention Liljegren and Robertson but worry it might involve Knies, which I have my doubts about.

If Hanifin is looking for an 8 handle, I am further tilted to the trade side. Run with Kylington and Pachal. Might even be able to pick up another Dman for cheap at the deadline, to help with the playoff push.

With how good Markstrom, Tanev and Hanifin have been playing I could see Treliving getting sentimental for one or two of them.
Knies + 1st + Samsonov for ??? Throw Reaves in as a cap dump? F5 like crazy lol

Exactly.
If you’re going to go playoffs then maybe dish Hanifin for a 1st and then get a new d guy inbound and pay a 3rd or something. The relative upgrade in the pick >>> the relative (theoretical?) downgrade in Hanifin to some d guy. Kylington can handle increased minutes too.
The right answer is trade. Also, 8 years is an insanely long time. People don’t really appreciate the length of these deals very well.

Conroy watched the Tre be blue balled for a decade.

Completely agree it’ll take a few years. I meant more in the sense of how the locker room is. I think it’s under-appreciated how big of a deal it is to successful teams.

Liljegren hasn't taken the next step that the Leafs hoped. Whether he will or not is still up in the air I think. And Robertson has some good stats but they seem hesitant to play him. Knies is good but suffers from Leafs overhype.

Some guys just need to play top 6 minutes to be effective. There isn't a spot in Toronto for him to do that. He should of been left to cook in the AHL.

eventually, but it doesn't need to be this season. His value will be the same this summer, and many if not all of the teams that need a goalie now will still need one

I was confused on the radio broadcast as they kept mentioning the kids getting goals in Zary and Rooney.
We all do realize that Rooney is 30 years old and probably one of the oldest players on the roster right now.

Similar comments earlier in the year about DeSimone and Hunt.
