It's that Battle of the CP Insiders! and they all have different info. Likely shows just how fluid the situation is with these UFA's and a team just on the outside of the playoffs.
I appreciate all of the info from you guys, even if its all over the place lol

Pat Brisson is probably mediating a sign and trade like he did with PLD this summer. That didn’t end poorly for WPG.

Conroy is cooking fire, no doubt.
At ~8, it's effectively the same situation as Lindholm saying 9+.
Conroy undoubtedly has his value for the player, and the player is seeking for a premium to stay. If this is what it is, then yeah - best approach is to try and broker a sign and trade, and failing that then trade him as a rental.

Surprised they would still be negotiating the number at this point. 8 is too high.
let's make a deal!

8 is a bit rich. I assume that's "calgary tax" for Hanifin. But he should know that's a high ask for any middle pairing D.
If hanifin is going to play it like lindholm and hold his price higher than already good and generous Flames offers then good riddance and good luck finding that number elsewhere.
Spoiler alert - you won't. And if a team is desperate and you do, you won't get that 8th year so you give up money by leaving no matter what.

Hanifin can go for $8MM. He is the perfect example of a player who ramps it up for a contract year and then will underperform. If we are being honest he hasn't been top pairing quality here in Calgary until this year.

Trade Hanifin. Not worth 8.
Sit Tanev, trade him too.
Manage team properly. Thanks.

Yeah. If he gets that number, it's almost a certainty he doesn't play up to it for the duration. He's clearly putting in extra this year for the new contract carrot. Take that away, what's he next year/moving forward?
This is hanifins absolute upper end.

Would be a massive surprise to me if Hanifin doesn't generate more serious interest than just the Yotes. The d market is incredibly thin and this guy can be added for under 2.5 with retention down the stretch. Hopefully more than just 2 or 3 teams on his signing list, it doesn't make much sense even from Noah's perspective to paint himself into a corner like that, he will be limiting his own earning potential pretty seriously.
Also it seems like some of the younger fans don't have the same Oilers hate, but I don't think the flames should deal Tanev to the Oilers unless it is a MASSIVE overpay. Anything that risks helping them win a cup with that pack of welfare handout lotto top picks and misbehaving losers would be a real kick in the teeth.

Wonder what this means in terms of doing business...
Was Pat Brisson just trying to squeeze extra money out but Hanifin will be happy at $7.5M?
Or does that mean they are talking about favourable trade partners for Hanifin to try to work out a sign and trade?

Won’t be the Oilers. Tanev is a horrible option as a top 6 forward…

Trade em all
Tanev Hanifin and markstrom
We should be able to get a decent young forward, a young NHL defenseman and a few good picks (at least)
Then
Make the playoffs, eliminate the oilers and call it a decent retool season

Some buzz about Treliving working on a package for Tanev and Hanifin involving their 1st (obviously).

The team is going to be much different with a Tanev trade. You can’t take a guy like that out of the dressing room and be better.
The trade is necessary. I just wouldn’t be surprised if it hits harder then expected

64 million? That's not the most egregious ask from the players end. It's his prime aged contract. IMO, that's a waaaay better ask than Lindholms 9.5 or whatever.
We have learned though Conroy has a budget marked for each player and if it's too much for him then it's off to the trade block.
So whatever happens next, I'm good with it. I can be okay with an 8 million AAV for zhanifin if they keep him for that because I trust Conroys acceptable limits of paying players.
Tanev can move any minute now IMO, gotta get him off the books fast. It's gotta be anxiety city every time Tanev goes down the tunnel during a game.

TBH i'd still rather pay Hanifin $8M now than pay Andersson $8M+ in 2 years.

Prior to his least deal his performance was pretty much on with his career averages, adjusting a bit for experience.
This year he's performing about the same as 2 years ago albeit with more goals and less assists. I think he's pretty consistent at around .5 PPG the last 3 years, and a little under that previously.
Not saying he's worth his ask - I just don't think this is a special contract year performance.
