All signs point to Tanev being moved. Seems like teams are offering 2nd rounders and Conroy is holding out for a first. It's a bit of a risky strategy. At almost 50 games in Tanev may be past his due date for at least a ten game injury.

Hearing more that this years draft is not considered strong after 20. Wonder if Conroy is pushing for a 2025 first in all this as well whether that is part of a return for Tanev, Hanifin, Vladar, Markstrom, Mangiapanne or any of the other names (if there are any) that seem to be popping up.

In his 4 seasons with the Flames he has played in 93% of the games. (251/271) missing an average of 5 games a season.
Tanev had a bit of an injury history in Vancouver but that's not been the case since in Calgary.

They're specifically looking for players who understand the arithmetic of E=NG for round 1 of the playoffs.

He's still an injury magnet, just thankfully nothing serious in a Flames jersey, during the season anyways:

You're also conveniently not mentioning the time Tanev missed from playoff games or the major off season shoulder surgery he had.
You're playing Russian roulette if you're banking on Tanev avoiding a 10-20 game injury.

I wouldn't hate this.
If the price for Tanev is a 2nd, and the Flames end up making the playoffs, it's not a bad scenario. Obviously, there's a worst case scenario where the flames miss and Tanev walks for free. If that happens, I wouldn't be too upset, given the haul we received on Lindholm. It's a wasted asset, but the lesser of the four major players Conroy had to deal with: Toffoli, Lindholm, Hanifin, then Tanev.
If the Flames do make the playoffs, the team would feel empty without Tanev.
Who knows the Flames may even re-sign him to another bargain contract.

They really do need to sit him out. And they need to trade him. It’s a pretty easy decision actually.

I haven’t heard a single journalist/hockey reporter say that the Flames are considering that they should keep Tanev. I think it’s all but certain he will be trade and, from the sound of things, that trade could happen before this road trip is done.

I think they might, on Fan960 yesterday. Pat stated they are watching the pre-skate at each game as Tanev in their view could be pulled
Due to the heavy amount of trade speculation. (ie. high amount of scouts at yesterday's game)
I could see the Flames pushing to sign Hanifin
However, my bet Tanev is traded,

Nor I, all the insiders are stating the high amount of interest (i.e. Senators, Toronto, Devils, Canucks, Oilers, etc.)
My guess he is traded, fairly soon
If one of the team's reaches Conroy's price Tanev is gone

They've already had their talk with Tanev. It was reported he wanted too much term. Conroy said he isn't walking anyone to free agency. Thus he will be traded, and soon.
Sit him.

When they trade Tanev I hope they sit with him and say they will make an effort to bring him back in the offseason. "Don't sell your house just yet, Chris." I hope he comes back with a ring (depending on the team).

Also we shouldn’t be acting like we haven’t been here before.
We beat some good teams! We’re a playoff team!
…and then lose to middling teams and end up right back at .500.
Conroy has to keep the big picture in mind. Tanev and an unsigned Hanifin both have to be traded with an eye on being better in the future. Being this .500 team is nowhere near good enough.

Retool/rebuild or not, if the Flames are able to sneak into the playoffs, that's 100% the priority that will be passed down from management to add some playoff revenue.
Sitting guys won't be happening. Just trade them soon instead, see if we can get the wildcard spot anyway.

Credit to Conroy this year. All his time sitting in the wings has shown he has really absorbed things like a sponge. In no way does he come across like a rookie GM. I think he clearly is giving himself a reputation that he isn't going to give his players away.

Not a chance, GM has a plan
They are going to move more players, just wait and see
If Hanifin does not agree to sign the contract (he is gone)
Tanev will be moved etc (the return will never be higher)
