These last few games have been a fantastic showing for Tanev, Hanifin and Markstrom. All 3 have been putting on a clinic of what they bring to a team. Going to have to pay up if you want one. Would honestly be happy with trading or signing Hanifin as long as the price as right for trading or signing - which I think it will be.

I agree about not trading Kuzmenko. Kuzmenko is not an UFA. I think the Flames should use the time they have to figure out what they have, if they want to/can re-sign him, OR to pump up his value, if they want to trade him at next year’s deadline.

There's not really any downside to this approach, makes all the sense in the world to ride this out.
If he turns out to have incredible chemistry with Huberdeau, this solves your problem nicely.

Would be really crazy if the flames ended up trading all these UFAs and still made the playoffs. It’s obviously very unlikely but crazier things have happened. It does feel good as a fan to be comfortable with lots of different scenarios. I’ll be happy if the flames end up trading all 3 of Hanifin, Tanev and Markstrom each for a hall of picks/prospects/young players. I’ll be happy if they end up signing Hanifin and keeping Markstrom. I’ll be happy if they end up with a high draft pick this year to kickstart a rebuild/retool. I’ll be happy if they end up going on a really good run and end up making the playoffs.

The tweet kind of makes it look like Vegas and Montreal had multiple scouts at the game

I have not watched the devils very much in recent years but I was watching for Mercer and Holtz tonight because so many on here are hoping for one of them in a potential trade with New Jersey. Honestly can’t say either of them looked nearly as good as Zary has this year but it was just one game. I thought Holtz stood out more than Mercer.
They are both young so I’m sure they have a lot of potential to grow into and either would be great acquisitions in a trade with the flames. Not sure if it’s likely though… Jersey really needs to go on a run soon if they want to make the playoffs.

The flames have somehow improved the team with both the Toffoli and Lindholm trades.... It helps that they have lots of depth players waiting in the wings. But the way Conroy is making moves, at this rate he'll trade every other roaster player for picks and reclamation projects, but win the Cup anyways.

You can never have too many players like Zary, Mercer, Holtz, etc... You never know which ones are going to be the ones to take that next step and become your future first line forwards. Plus they all look like sure things to be at least middle six players with offence and jam.
That being said, I don't see the NJD trading away great young players for rentals. Maybe in a hockey trade for a signed Hanifin though. If Hanifin makes it clear that he wants to go back to the USA, then these are the kinds of deals I see Conroy making.

Yeah they did this already with Tofolli, can’t see it happening

The Center market is so thin that I wonder if Kevin Rooney could get you a 3rd or 4th if he plays 10-15 good games before the deadline

If you can get a 7th round pick for Rooney, you trade him. If you like the player, make him an offer in the Summer to be your 4th line centre, it shouldn’t cost much.

I dont want tod trade Kuz until we really know what we've got. That means at least next season- have to see him after the hot streak from trade winds down and through a lower phase.
But imo, huberdeau- x - Kuzmenko has the potential to be one of the best o lines in the league. Need to solve for x outside our current roster.

Mercer would be an interesting candidate for X. Fast, Two way player with good goal scoring instincts. Just needs to work on the faceoffs a bit more.
I'd also try dubois there but I know people don't like that notion.

Not at all.
I cringe every time he blocks a shot.

Yup, same here. I'm with what Rhett Warrener said post-game last night. Trade Tanev for the best deal on the table right now. He's an injury waiting to happen, and then it would be yet another opportunity lost.

The missing player may be someone ether surprisingly easy to acquire or even someone in the system. Huberdeau succeeded with some real scrubs in Florida, which was why I was always so shocked players in Calgary were having such awful chemistry with him.
Kuzmenko has solid offensive skills in his own right and is the trigger man.
Maybe they just need someone to stand at the net and bat in garbage and pull pucks from there corner. Hate to break up the Kadri/Zary, but I would like to see Zary try. Otherwise bring in a guy like Duclair or Marchment (but slightly better hopefully).
Whoever it is, Conroy seems like the guy to go out looking for it. His ability to access chemistry and team needs is light years ahead of BT's. BT could pick talented guys, but there was always so much uncertainty about how they would fit into the team. Conroy made a career, as a player, out of finding chemistry with star wingers. Those skills are clearly translating into success as a GM.
