Which prime players in recent history did the Coyotes sell off? Ekman-Larsson? Are you in the "Coyotes should have kept Ekman-Larsson" camp?
Also pretty hilarious that the supposed example of this practice has recently signed overpriced UFAs like Dumba, Kerfoot, Zucker, Kuemper, Jaskin -- which are all examples of what not to do if you're a small market team. Not to mention the prime example, Ekman-Larsson, which the Coyotes extended for 8 years when he was a pending UFA and lived to regret it. Imagine what the Coyotes could have gotten for prime Ekman-LArsson.
If this is the best example of building a player development pipeline failing, well, then I think some here don't quite grasp the concept.

Retool on the fly is hockey OBC speak for rebuilding since they aren't allowed to say that word.
What I want is to trade Hanifin. I won't get that?
Huberdeau has negative value. Kadri too, though it's increased significantly since about 35 games ago. Keep the liabilities and liquidate the assets.

How does signing player in his prime right now help us? By the time we can even use him he'll be 30+, taking up cap space, and being terrible under pressure when we finally get to the playoffs again. If we were a winning team that could use him sure, but we aren't. We need the assets MUCH MUCH more.

Can either you or cannon point to a team that operates how you think is ideal?

I very clearly stated backup plan, not master plan.

Can you? We sell off valuable pieces, then re-sign someone who could be one. San Jose?

Columbus. They did so well to spend money on Werenski and lure Gaudreau over. They’ll have years of fun!

Chicago needed Seth Jones to mentor their young players. Totally worth it too.

That’s not your argument. Your argument is about players approaching the end of their RFA contracts.
If you are talking about trading all stars - Hanifin isn’t one.

Speaking of Dallas, how dumb were they? They could have had Patrick Eaves re-signed and chose to flip him for a late 1st. Oettinger?
