I swear I’ve never seen such a coordinated eastern-media push to try and suppress a players value more than they have with Tanev over the last few weeks.

Brodie was supposed to be the cap dump according to some rumours last month. I thought he was still playing at a high enough level. He has a 10 team NTC though, and who knows if he has the Flames on it now?
The Leafs' 7 highest paid forwards all have trade protection, including recently signed Bertuzzi and Domi. Kampf has a 10 team NTC, and makes 2.4 million - perhaps he is the dump coming back if the Flames aren't on it?

I’d love Brodie back. He would be a great middle pairing D for Hanifin or Kylington.

So who owns the lion's share of the eastern media? Bell and Rogers.
Who owns most of the Leafs? Bell and Rogers.
Follow the money.

So we retain, give a desperate team a good dman, and we have to take back Reeves? Just to get back a first? I’m out. Reeves has a not so nice cap hit and does nothing to help the skilled young guys brought in. Rather an expiring like Klingberg. Reeves is slow and just likes talking big. Trade Tanev elsewhere if it means bringing that bum in.

Can't see a deal for a forward and a defenseman working. The math just doesn't seem to be there.

Klingberg is already on LTIR. Dumping him doesn't give the Leafs any cap space.

I can see the Rooney argument, but my guess for an F/D package would be Tanev and Coleman. Adding those two provides a truckload of what Toronto is currently lacking. But that would require a cap dump (Brodie seems like the obvious choice) and a hell of a package coming back.
Tanev (50%) + Coleman ($1.9M) --> Brodie + 1st + Cowan + Niemela

Coleman is making $4.9 million. Even with full retention on both, that's a cap hit of $4.7 million that Toronto would have to make room for. Brodie coming back would do it, but just barely. (And I'm not sure the Flames are willing to retain money from now until 2027.)
If there does end up being a deal with Toronto, it's going to make the Tkachuk trade look simple. I'll be interested to see how the Leafs try to pull it off.

Is Treliving trying to bully Conny? Says he won't trade his 2024 1st for Tanev, then says he wants Tanev and a forward from the Flames for their 1st and Flames has to take back one of his bad contract? Conny should just tell him to stick it where the sun don't shine.

Brodie would work.
I don't know if the Leafs would want to subtract him from their roster.

Remember though, Treliving keeps it very close to the vest, and always tried to misdirect. You never know what he's doing until it's done.

My proposal would be $5M one way and $5.25 the other - doable
And I could see Treliving paying up for Coleman - that is exactly who he would go for
