Rumour in AZ is that the Coyotes initially started the application process for the NE Phoenix site back in June, a month after the failed Tempe vote. Would mean they'd likely be a lot further along in that 12-month timeframe.
The fact that they're going after state trust land makes this that much more complex and probably even less likely to happen. They would have to display benefit to the citizens and tax payers of Arizona and then go through the process of application, cultural and environmental study, geo-tech study, have the state determine a minimum appraisal, have a review completed by the ASDL Board of Appeals, have a public notification, and then finally an open auction. That is just to be able to procure the land in question. That doesn't even address potential zoning concerns, building limitations, and permitting through the local municipality/municipalities. Still massive amounts of issues that could sewer this including Scottsdale residents going NIMBY and making sure development permits are never granted.

I don't see this as being realistic. The whole idea of these arena deals is the connected real estate development side projects. Getting involved with the Wee Ko Pa Band the Yavapai Nation or any other tribal government would eliminate that potential development opportunity. Also raises a number of issues with access, road development, sovereignty considerations, etc. Trying to get a road built through or around any or the reservations is a nightmare, so I can't see a sports facility going off without a number of hitches. Also, Fort McDowell is off the beaten path like Glendale. Doesn't make sense. Maybe if Salt River wanted to play ball, but Yavapai just doesn't make sense.
Man that Tempe location falling through is looking worse and worse.
Couldn't see that happening in any fashion. That was worse than the Flames wanting to build in the west village. The cost to the taxpayers of Tempe for cleanup was huge and then the benefit was minimal. The house of cards created by the Coyotes ownership team came crashing down as a result of the slightest pressure. For Tempe it was best this deal fell apart. Frankly, for Phoenix it is best if the Coyotes moved on. They are more of a source of embarrassment at this point than anything. The NHL would be wise to move the franchise, allow for a cooling period, then comeback to Phoenix in 10 or 20 years.
Per Friedman:
“I think that we are coming to the end of the line with this ownership group, I believe there isn’t something hard and fast in place in the very near future. They will begin the process of selling the team or the NHL taking over the team and selling it to someone else, I believe we will get there. I believe one of the reasons you hear the commissioner say nothing negative about them is he knows this could end up in a big legal fight and he doesn’t want to say or do anything that will end being used against him."
Yuo. The ARZ saga is coming to an end. Bettman has no choice but to let it die. There's legitimate markets with arenas on the ready to make that franchise make money.

...waiting for Jordan to post in 5, 4, 3, 2...
I've been settled on Ishbia/Suns buying the team since the Tempe vote..
I don't have a lot of faith in the Meruelo's, they continually choose the path of most resistance
I feel like hockey can definitely work in Arizona but jesus, this franchise needs to hit the reset button. Move 'em and try again with a different franchise later
