I like Huberdeau way better than PLD as a player. But I do it because the contract is better and you can buy it out easier. Plus the first makes it easier to swallow. And a second round Dman prospect - Flames do well with those.

The right answer is to trade Huberdeau 50% retained for PLD 50% retained then trade PLD to someone else.

Or whatever Huberdeau at 4.25 mil retained and PLD at 50%. Then it’s cap neutral. Turn two bad assets into two decent assets. And then you could trade PLD at 25% and I imagine that would worth a load if he ever looked semi useful.

I get it, thoughts are that positional need, and an opportunity to get assets with LA trying to offload him. Perhaps he is can be reformed, perhaps he can not. Even at his performance he fits a 2nd/3rd line center on this team. Thats if the attitude can be sorted.

Cheaper, younger, can buy it out, and he's a center.

Was it not like the last couple years PLD was a near dream get for a portion of this board? I didn't expect him to have a good first year in LA, similar to first year in Winnipeg, I think he will bounce back next year and likely live up to his contract with the rising cap.

Call me crazy, but I would take PLD for Huderdeau in a heartbeat. Younger, Less Cap, More important position.

If I had to live in Winnipeg or play with Doughty I'd also have a bad attitude.

Only benefit of PLD is he is younger. But for context, PLD is actually one of the worst contracts right now in terms of $ per point.

All have a worse $ per point than Huberdeau. On top of that they don't really have great attitudes. Granted Huberdeau has a super long contract.

He is also playing on the third line with dusty scrubs. I understand he has not earned the right to play about Daneault or Kopitar. Still, his linemates have fewer points combined than him.

On the Flames he would be a top 6 player playing with the Flames top six players. Not a couple of AHL players.

Huberdeau was playing with Coleman and Backlund for a while.

Lindholm was a ghost.

PLD has quit on teams, I don't think the same can be said for Huberdeau.

PLD wanted this, wanted the bright lights and the fact he is getting called out by his own teammates speaks volumes of his character.
