A ladybug out in January is totally normal, right?

The annoying Boxelder bugs are also out and about when the sun is shining. Apparently I didn't kill enough of them before the winter arrived....

Well...normally I'd agree, but we're really screwed on water.

We're going to have to pump some out of the mountain lakes.

I reckon UCB should have a custom user title of uncomfortably cold

I’m not sure where he grew up. I now propose his custom user title should be
“In need of bunny hug”

Dumb question, but if precipitation doesn't have much to do with flows in major basins, what does?

Or have we been screwing up water usage for quite a while now like other parts of Western USA?

I think Barnes means that Calgary sees some pretty different weather compared to where the water is actually coming from. If go up the watersheds closer to the headwaters and track their precipitation, that matters more for regions as a whole than what a city gets.

By the time you get started I'll have already sucked it dry! I've got a suction-pump putting that sweet, sweet mountain water into a giant tanker and I've already sold it to Nestle!

I'll be right beside you, bottling the exhaust from your diesel pumps and selling it as canned mountain air.

Precipitation does have an effect on surface water flows but we really rely on snowpack levels which so far are really low.

I am not an expert but have been working with Alberta water data for about a year now. I don’t think we are screwing it up. Water is managed by 2 regulators here. AER for energy related licensing and AEP for everyone else. The O&G industry has been better at reporting than other activities from my experience but the irrigation districts probably have some really smart people managing water in their areas. There are a lot of experts in the field working on this here.

The AER having control of water is frightening.

Hopefully with some strong snow forecasted for some parts of southern AB, we get some solid snow melt INTO the ground as opposed to an evaporation

I wish there was a way to rail over some snow to you guys. We are getting way too much out here on the coast. It's becoming a thing

Been raining then snowing out in Priddis all day, to the point it’s building up rather than melting on the driveway. Going to be back breaking stuff to shovel. Surprised to see Calgary so dry but it looks like this system is travelling northwest, just south of the city until later tonight.

It's probably not a terribly significant difference, but I would think a few days of quite warm weather (+ today's rain) is more effective in getting a high portion of the snowpack (local) to actually melt into the ground instead of evaporating?

I'm thinking in a typical stretch after a snowfall you might have weather from -10C to 5C...especially when the sun is out you'd see a chunk of that evaporate before it gets a chance to melt...?

So you guys are getting a little snow out there eh? That's cute.

Here are my cars, that's a CRV in behind:

Another shot of the cars:

There's about a foot to foot and a half drop off the front porch:

All the basement windows look like this:

Look at that fence!

Hope you're all surviving out there with your... "Snow. Amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind north 20 km/h becoming light this morning. High minus 4. Wind chill minus 13 this morning and minus 8 this afternoon."

Ah, OK I think I see your problem. You have a house in the red area, you'd be much better in the cyan one.
