Can't be happier with the trade, better than any expectations I had for Lindholm. The only other prospect I would rather have form Canucks is Lekkerimäki, but even then you can make an argument we need the defensive prospect more (yes over Willander).

Kuzmenko is a cap dump from Canucks side but a coveted asset form the Flames side, this is a classic case of not fitting in with the coach and loosing confidence. He is highly skilled PP guy, if Monahan can get a 1st, Kuzy will get us even more at next trade deadline with 50% retained.

This has potential to be franchise changing trade, and that is exactly what you want from trading your top player

I feel like Willander might be more of a sure thing...but that Brz might actually have the higher ceiling if he pans out.

Love those high risk high reward swings though.

3. He has an easy out to leave, make a good living, and play in his home country if things don't work out in short order here

Brzu makes so much more sense for this organization in my mind, and to me Conroy certainly targeted the correct guy.
It how good trades get made.

Brzu had mare value to Calgary than Vancouver, due to Vancouver having Hughes and others who can QB the PP. Calgary had a need there.

Kuz had huge negative value to Vancouver, he had lesser negative value to Calgary.

Each side got what they wanted/needed. It was not a forced trade, it was actually very well thought out.

Willander is a much better prospect, as his two way game is better.

This was not a situation where Conroy picked the wrong guy, he got the guy who is a very good prospect that Vancouver was winning to move.

Conroy got a guy who can become an elite level offensive defense man and QB a PP1.

The only reason that a prospect of this potential is available is that Quinn Hughes isn't even 25.

Conroy did well. Lindholm was never getting a team's Lekkerimakis or Willanders. He got a guy who can do something at an elite level that the Flames did not have in their system.

A lot of people are really underselling Kuzy here. I would not be surprised at all if he scores 30-40 next year, mark my words

Said that Pospisil and Zary both want to play C, but I got the sense that he was more enthusiastic about Pospisil as a center, that's at least the second time he's mentioned it since the trade. I believe Zary was also playing wing in the AHL before he got called up, so I'm not sure if they see him as a C.

Wonder if Pospisil could mesh with Huberdeau the same way Bennett did.

I don't think anyone is underselling him, he will get top powerplay minutes to light the lamp and be trade bait for next years deadline.

If you look at the two extremes ...

Low End - he sputters for a year and half and walks for nothing
High End - gets back to where he was and generates a 1st at next year's deadline

... you kind of feel at ease.

The Flames have the cap space to do the trade, they reserve their retention slot to add additional assets, so the low end is fine.

High end is a franchise changing transaction.

Mid case likely a 20 goal season and he's moved for a 2nd and a 3rd.

I mean more of a not being excited for this player. He is gonna make Flames way more exciting to watch and way more skilled. I loved seeing Kuzy play last year with the Canucks and kept saying man I wish he was a Flame, such a fun player

I was just about to post the same thing. He also mentioned that he doesn't see trying Zary/Pospisil at center tomorrow. Most of Lindholm's minutes will be split between Backlund and Kadri. He specifically mentions a guy like Schwindt, or a potential call up that might have an opportunity to become the #3C for a while.

Conroy also mentions potentially getting a 24 or younger center, that has growth potential as a piece in another deal.

Huberdeau Pospisal Sharangovich?

Can the new guy play center? Would suck to break up the Kadri line.

Seems like the roster is disjointed now. Need another center. Maybe via trade? Might have too many wingers now.

Let's not get carried away again.

I'm a big HB fan, have followed him since he was drafted and think in time he can play in the NHL.

But to suggest that his upside is an elite level offensive dman and PP1 QB at the NHL level or even in the minors is over the top and reeks of hyperbole.

Some scouting reports compare him to Liljegren in Toronto.

In Vancouver he was behind Hughes at the NHL level, Willander on the reserve list and I would argue behind Johansson in Abbotsford which made him expendable.

Prospects with the skill sets and upside you claim HB has usually go right from junior to the NHL, something I hope the Flames don't do.

He will need time in the minors to learn the pro game and develop his game to overcome his deficiencies which he will have to do if he is to play in the NHL.

No, saying that he is surefire going to be an elite level offensive dman and PP1 would be hyperbole. Saying that his skill set and potential are there is saying "he needs to be developed, but the ability is there"

And some people have compared his skill set to that of Cale Makar with less polish. Development will decide who he becomes as a pro.

Lol, no they don't. Most young players take time to develop. What you are thinking about are players who are already at that level (Quinn Hughes, Cale Makar, etcetc) not having the skill set to potentially reach that level.

OH hey, we agree again! It doesn't change what he can develop into!
