Nah, I think we should move Markstrom... Wolf needs to get actual NHL games under his belt and those will be few and far between so long as Markstrom is on the roster. I see some logic to moving both Vlader and Markstrom and getting a quality veteran to 1A/1B with Wolf... but he needs to get his feet wet in the NHL and with Markstrom around I have a hard time seeing them let him get anything more then his toes wet.

I mean... the Flames aren't going to walk into the season with 4 rookies on the Blueline (regardless of who is in net)... they're going to sign some veterans whether that's extensions on Kylington/Tanev or someone else.

Yesssss. Kid is tough. Switching to NYR, I also loved that Larry Brook mention Cuylle as part of a Lindholm deal… maybe they want some D? Those are the kind of young roster guys I want to see brought in, along with high picks.

With things heating up I wonder if Conroy continues to run a tight ship. The Lindholm talk seemed to be all coming out of Vancouver didn’t it? I don’t recall any of the Calgary media insiders even hinting at this move.

To be fair I don’t follow the twitter stuff super close so maybe someone Calgary side had an inkling this was happening. Did I miss it? The hunt is as fun as the kill as it were.

Yep, agreed on how it shook out with Lindholm.

I was more referring to pending other big moves like Hanifin or even Markstrom.

This was my "ideal" deadline goal. Three 1sts going into the draft.

I assumed that would include dealing Hanifin. If you can have 3 going in, AND having Hanifin re-signed to an extension? That would be outstanding work. Best scenario I could've hoped for up until just this past week.

There was definitely some misdirection from Conroy. We have heard some talk for a bit about potentially re-signing Lindholm. Conroy after the trade said that talks fizzled out early in the season and from the sounds of it they have been working to trade him since. Pretty decent poker face he had going. I wonder if the Hanifin situation is the same.

Conroy running a tight ship? lol. So many insiders here connected to the Flames. I don’t recall much coming from when Treliving was here. Conroy’s definitely involving many people in his decisions and it shows from the insiders on this board.

And you can't retain on more than 3 contracts as well.

We'll see.
Yes, we’ll know in a few weeks if Conroy is keeping his retention spots open for strategic reasons, or if Murray Edwards simply hates retaining salary.

Would be awesome to see retention on Hanifin and Tanev and then act as the broker for another deal with the third retention spot. Grab another pick for nothing but $

4 tidbits:

1. Spoke with my source within the Sharks organization. Tomas Hertl has let the team know that he will wait and see what moves the Sharks make and will talk to the team after the season to see the direction of the team. He loves the city (I live here myself and I do as well so I can vouch for that) and area and he's been here for awhile so he doesn't want to leave. With that said, if the Sharks are in rebuild mode from this summer onwards, he wants to go to a contender. He wants to win.

2. 4-5 teams have called on Mario Ferraro. He's currently on IR but signed for a few more seasons. Some discussions have taken place.

3. A couple of teams have called on Mackenzie Blackwood but no formal offer was made yet. Just tire kicking so far to see the market.

4. And to Flames fans, the most important one: I reported a month ago that the Sharks had talked to Calgary about Duclair. There was never a formal offer made but Dube's name came up in discussion and obviously with everything that transpired that fell apart quickly. * Also as an extra: Calgary wasn't aware of anything prior. After the news came out a few weeks ago, it fell apart. Wanted to make that clear. Also doesn't mean as I mentioned an offer was made. Just that the 2 teams had chatted.

Take these for what they are worth. Reporting what I have been told and thought I'd pass along.

Would love to see the flames get two more first round picks in Hanifin and Tanev trades (even if one of them is in 2025 instead of this year). Imagine going into the draft with four first round picks. The flames could possibly package two of those picks for a higher pick in the draft. That could be a huge influx of top prospects into the organization.

Based on the return for Lindholm -

1 NHL roster player
2 draft picks
2 prospects

-

We now have a much clearer picture of what their haul will be post-deadline.

Hanifin is younger and having a better year, so he should return at least as much as Lindholm.

Tanev is likely to then return at least two pieces.

So if they only trade the UFAs, they should be left with:

-three additional 1st round picks
-three NHL players who can play in the league and be flipped again
-six additional prospects
-three additional mid-late picks

That’ll do, pig.

I can't wait for Conroy's next deal and to see how this last one plays out. He just added a couple D prospects, 1 that looks like he could be a steal and could go into this draft with 4 firsts? Not to mention that Kuzmenko and Sharangovich combined will make less than Lindholm wanted not to mention how risky a Toffoli extension would look like.

Conroy is fixing a rough situation very quickly.

You'll have to trade the late 1sts for players if you want sure fire NHL players

Potential teams I think could be in on Tanev and/or Hanifin at this point. I’m not including Edmonton because I don’t consider them as a serious trade partner with the flames. I’m also not including Ottawa because I think their rumoured interest in Tanev is simply as a target in the offseason.

Tanev:

Vancouver
Los Angeles
New York
Florida
Toronto
Colorado
Dallas
Winnipeg
Boston

Hanifin:

Boston
Florida
Detroit
New York
Dallas
Los Angeles

If the return for either player includes a first round pick, Los Angeles is the team with the highest potential first round pick at this point in the standings. Followed by Detroit.

There will definitely be teams looking at Laughton. Underrated player and a dressing-room and coaches favourite. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him wind up in NYR or BOS.

I don't make a lot of trade proposals. I'm not good at them and am quick to criticize others.

That said, with the report that Philly may be looking at Vladar and the recent need to replace a body at C, or at least add, how about this?

To Flyers: Vladar, Flames 2024 2nd
To Flames: Frost, Flyers 2024 2nd (unsure which one is available to be moved)

The money is practically even and the the Flames get the better of the two picks, mostly due to the Flyers needing a goalie more (perhaps) though its fluid.

Thoughts?
