[QUOTE=SuperMatt18;8968598]I still don't believe they didn't know.
Maybe they didn't have full confirmation he'd be charged, but the writing was on the wall by that point.
If I had heard on the 19th that Hart and Dube would be implicated then the organization should have known too.[/
I may have to turn this into a drinking game.

I can say it again if you like? IMO It's relevant to the discussion with the Flames statement being released.
The Flames can state they have absolutley no knowledge of this but if a random person can hear about it before hand then I'm sure they had at least some knowledge.
In the end it is legal speak because until the charges were officially filed they can say they had no knowledge of the charges and their statement is still valid.

One other thing, I’ve turned the dial to Fan960 and personally I don’t like that they are pretending this massive story doesn’t exist. Seems very weak to me.

Who cares what the Flames said. People are always looking for someone to blame for something out of some self righteousness in the name of the greater good. You don’t need to try so hard at wokeness here.
The player did the deed. Flames obviously cannot and did not cover for him because it would be irrelevant in the grand scheme and thus stupid.
We will see what happens to the players but the organization did no wrong here. Any speculation to the contrary is fruitless.

Again, even if they did "hear it", even if they did "suspect it" if a player requests a leave of absence to access an EAP program what did they post that was wrong?

People are mixing fandom expectations with contractual and union rights here… it’s unnecessary. What matters are the actions that follow now that he’s been officially charged.

This reminds me of WWE backstage drama, where people on the inside of pro wrestling usually know the story. Personally I think this incident had to have some insider knowledge all this time but nobody says a peep to the public. Plus even scant info has been public for years now.
Too much smoke for the Flames to think there wasn't a fire. Their statement sounds like legalese to me.

Of course they knew “something” but wouldn’t have likely know anything about Dube explicitly. Maybe rumours but you aren’t going to not sign a good player based on rumours.
You’re still innocent until proven guilty in the eyes of the law. Public opinion however is different and anything less than a non guilty verdict and these guys are toast.

Which is all totally above board and cool, but why mention the mental health angle? I believe it was an attempt to buy more good will a la Kylingtons story and ended up royally blowing up in the Flames’ face. It’s not a good look at all, and before the “Dube probably has mental issues too” crowd chimes in, his mental state shouldn’t weigh into the verbiage of a press release, much like Kylingtons didn’t at the beginning.
This was a last ditch effort from Dube to save face and for the Flames to score some social justice points. Bad look all around.

Noticed that.
While yes, the story puts a damper on what's ultimately supposed to be entertainment, to keep their hands in their pockets looking the other way because the higher ups think it serves the product better to pretend the elephant in the room isn't there is just irresponsible journalism.
Some things warrant being brought to light even if it isn't a feel good story.
Weak indeed.

It’s not like Rogers is going to win journalism awards for their coverage of the scandal. They seem content to follow the Globe, TSN, and ESPN.
The 32 Thoughts pod intro after the latest Globe story was weak. Some parts felt like they were reading key messages. Felt contrived.
But 960 ignoring it completely just makes them look foolish and lack all credibility.

It may have been a last ditch effort for Dube, but the Flames were clearly going on the information they had at the time and took Dube at his word.
Ask yourself, what was in it for the Flames to lie? The answer is an astounding "NOTHING". So, my logic dictates they didn't. They wouldn't play the "mental health" angle to gain a couple days of good faith for Dube and jeopardize their own word. It doesn't make any sense, they clearly went by the information they had at the time, and Dube's word.

Its not like Dube said, 'i need some time, im gonna get arrested.'
And the Flames responded with 'lets call it a mental health thing ok?'

You mean the speculation in this forum isn't enough for you that you want to hear the local sports guys add in their own speculation that they have likely been warned by management to tread carefully not providing anything that can result in a lawsuit? If it makes you feel better they have spent the last 20 minutes discussing this as I type and just said they will spend more time discussing this later I but I sense that anything short of spending the majority of air time on this will not be enough to satisfy some of you. It's a terrible story but I just don't understand why some of you are directing outrage towards the Flames, 960, etc when we finally have five players implicated. They should be the focus here.

Even a non-guilty verdict will not be enough to clear these guys in the eyes of most.
Hockey Canada already paid out millions to bury the story. So there is lots of smoke.
Whether the Crown can prove it beyond any reasonable doubt is another matter.
