One thing I don't like about our fanbase is always criticizing the oilers lately for Kane and Perry but we had the 2 you mentioned above in Lucic and Dube, we have drafted Topi Ronni, hired Darryl Sutter & we at one point signed Todd Bertuzzi. We aren't in a position to talk down to the oilers in this respect.

Botched press release aside, yeah the Flames really screwed up not being able to see into Lucic and Dube's futures to know what they would do one day.

I can see the players not knowing the timing of the announcement that 5 players were about to be charged. There's no way they haven't known that their teammate was one of the players involved.

The 5 players thing wasn't really forecasted until after Dube's leave.

He got ahead of that speculation circulating by a couple days I think.

With how much they went out on a limb in those quotes, there's no way they had a sense of what was going on and players are pretty much trained/taught to not speak on rumors in general so it looks by the script for them.

The Dube statement connecting his leave to mental health is obviously a misstep. Were they just taking the player at his word? Seems hard to imagine that they had no inkling that Dube was part of the focus of such a high-profile investigation.

The team will have to clarify and apologize, and in short order. There's no excuse not to now that Dube's legal team has issued a statement confirming that he's been charged. The team should not wait until Feb. 5 to clear the air, which is what it feels like they were hoping to do. Too much scrutiny is going to fall on them between now and then.

The statement from his lawyer last year was about as far from reassuring as any lawyer statement could have been. Many people had suspicions then and ever since, and for good reason.

This is awful. This whole situation is so damn awful.

It's possible that they suspected, but didn't know for sure. Pretty sure if an employee requests a leave as part of the EAP program the employer must grant the leave.

No knowledge of pending charges is the key statement here. How could they have knowledge of charges that had not been filed yet?

They most likely had information that he was under investigation and was involved in some aspect
