I am suspicious of Dube's intent on citing mental health. No doubt that a pending arrest is a really stressful situation and he had anxiety about it. I am sure the other 4 players did as well. And sure, maybe there are unrelated underlying issues, but the timing is just too convenient.

I wonder if he thinks seeking mental health treatment as the official reason for leaving makes it harder for the Flames to void his contract.

It’s amazing to me that more energy is being spent on the flames messaging than the players that were charged.

It’s pretty simple why the Flames look dumb. They have a player in Kylington who has been fighting a mental health issue and is a feel good story. Their statement about Dube made iit look like the situations were equivalent and then Dube got charged with rape.
I’m a little cynical and think Flames management knew what was coming but whether it was intentional or not they are going to get roasted.
The only thing that kind of works in their favour to play the they didn’t know card is that it makes the waiving of Ruzicka even more questionable from a timing perspective

There isn’t much to debate about the charges. I think they raped her but might wiggle free of consequences because of the he said/he said/he said/he said/he said vs she said nature of the case. I’m hoping the State has a smoking gun.

He probably has to be convicted first.

Kane didn’t. Richards didn’t. Perry didn’t. They should do it promptly

Or hockey Canada for legitimately covering for them.

It was a big PR mistake and frankly a head or two should roll within the organization for allowing it to happen.

But yeah.. good to know we're keeping in perspective the real atrocities that were committed here.

The league can step in and terminate them prior to convictions, they did it with the LA d man… blanking on his name.

What I fear is these players being allowed to play in the league again after an inapropriately brief amount of time (if they're not incarcerated).

If that isn't the last straw for those already discontented with the NHL I don't know what would be.

I’m willing to forgive the Flames for what they did. I’m not sure I could say the same about Dillon Dube.

Cut ties with him as soon as possible and all is forgiven. Nobody here has any clue what the Flames did or didn’t know. Nobody knows what the NHL and Hockey Canada did or did not disclose to teams during the investigation.

I think a lot of the outrage is being misdirected.
Is the bolded in jest?

I do agree with your characterization that the Flames made a PR blunder, that is exactly how I would characterize it. A mistake to share information that was unnecessary, particularly when the allegations were known. The other teams did it right.

Maybe people would stop criticizing the Flames if people would stop defending their statement. Or maybe the Flames should issue a short apology and put it to bed.

Dube, Lucic... these guys were shown to us as stand up, community minded guys who could play tough on the ice. The club was still using dube in charity events until recently! And now we find out that one is an alleged rapist and one is implicated in a disgusting domestic abuse incident. It's a lot. It's a lot to feel like the people you're supposed to support as heroes are actually total scum.

how do you trust what the club says now? How do you not think that the culture is absolute dog #### organization wide if guys like this were previously being highlighted as the best of the bunch?? It's pathetic.
A little over the top. I think what you are realizing is hockey players are human. And humans f@&k up all of the time. Even the good ones.

If they are guilty the legal system will deal with them. That’s how our society works.

Hate to break it to you but that is completely false. Our society is all about who you know, how much money you have and how high the pedestal you are on is. The legal system in Canada is more broken than ever.

Is Fan960 allowed to talk about this? It’s news on every other radio station in Calgary.
