According to Friedman, there's a fire and he feels that the Canucks need to put it out (apparently from the 32 Thoughts podcast).

It's taking what Friedman's saying out of context. He isn't talking about their relationship with or the status of Pettersson. He's talking about the media going off the rails with a story with every little tidbit of info put out there. He's advocating just saying nothing.

That is interesting. Also explains why the Canucks have moved on from Lindholm.

Edit - Canucks media have struck again with their inability to get out of their own way/be useful. After the game last night Tocchet, as he has done, was very honest in his answer in regards to Pettersson's performance. Nothing overly harsh or negative. A very astute and constructive answer into what was wrong and what they needed to fix.

Canucks media across the board ran with sensationalist and incredibly negative articles and headlines. Tocchet has now come out and said he is likely going to be more guarded with his answers, which is a ####ing shame.

#### like that is why I hate Vancouver media.

I'm damned if I would trade four unprotected firsts for any player when my team is going into a rebuild. Then to pay him an eight-figure salary on top of that?

There's a reason why offer sheets are so rare in the NHL, and it has nothing to do with GMs colluding. It's that the prices are set too high. In most cases, the compensation alone is more than you could get for the player in a straight trade. On top of that, you have to overpay the player significantly just to get him to sign the offer sheet in the first place.

More the fact that the Flames don't have 100% control of all their firsts

14M offer Sheet was green text

... Really?

I just googled the articles and they all have headlines like "Tocchet offers rare critique of Pettersson", or "Tocchet calls for better play from Pettersson", or "Tocchet wants more from Pettersson". Which doesn't seem like in any way a sensationalist overstatement of what he said in the actual quote:
Quote:
“I haven’t liked his game the last three or four games,” Tocchet said. “We gotta get him going.”

“I think he’s got to skate,” Tocchet went on, when asked about what in particular he thinks Pettersson needs to do more of to get back to himself. “He’s got to start skating a little bit. I think he’s good with the moves sometimes, but I think when you have speed and make those moves, that’s when he’s at his best.”
Only Sportsnet has the headline "Tocchet calls out Pettersson". Overall it does not seem like a case of toxic media to me at all.

Maybe Tocchet and I are just sensitive boys, but I felt like the media wen overboard with it.

This all said, Petey's response makes me happy.

No kidding, who thought it was a good idea to use a term that accurately describes the geography?

Yeah! On Coronado Island they definitely call San Diego the lower mainland.

On Haida Gwaii, the lower mainland is Bella Coola. The central mainland is obviously Kitimat.

In Newfoundland they call the lower mainland Nova Scotia and the upper mainland Labrador. Wild!

In Vancouver sometimes you find a nice three lane street. Except the left lane is blocked with turning cars since they didn’t figure out how to build turn lanes that fit more than one car, and the right lane is blocked with parked cars. So everyone weaves in and out of the lanes, desperately trying to make sure they get through the 18 second green light; a recipe for optimal safety.

Vancouver is no good.

It was reported by Rick Dhaliwal that Hughes had gone to management and requested they attempt to get him.
