The Kings were what everyone was accusing the Canucks of being. They were feasting on non-play-off teams and resting on a high pdo while leaking high danger chances that Talbot and Copley were stopping. As soon as Copley got hurt, Talbot started letting in more and more goals. This downturn in goaltending coincided with a run of games against play-off teams.
So now, here we are.

Also, at this point I don't even want to trade Huberdeau, he makes Flames way more exciting to watch. I am a believer he can turn it around and be a PPG player here

I agree.
This year is a year to reload on picks and give development time to players whose growth has been stunted by former management/coaching. All of Pelletier, Zary, Coronato, Pospisil, Wolf, etc.. should have already had substantial playing time in the NHL by now. They are likely 1-2 years behind in their proper development, and the Flames need to make up that time this year.
I see Huberdeau coming back to form and the team having a totally different feel in 1-2 years.

I mean, it's a near certainty that the Devils pull the trigger on a trade at some point. So Weekes is really teeing himself up to be the prognosticator of record here! And he has even narrowed it down to being a goalie, D, or a forward... I am excite!

We got what the Devils need. Easy to put the two teams together in trade.

2037-38 would be the last season you are paying him. LOL. It's pretty ugly in years 3-7, when your cap hit is from $2.5 to 3.8M per year.

Not at all. You won't be paying Huberdeau anything for half of that period. And I expect he'll be a lot closer to earning his salary over the course of his term.
The buyout of PLD actually has a bigger cap hit over the last 7 years than if you bought out Huberdeau's, though the front half of Huberdeau's buyout is not feasible at all.

Disagree on Huberdeau coming close to earning his paycheque but I hope you are right. I'd take the dead cap over having Huberdeau's contract over the next 7 years. He is probably going to be a 5 -6 million dollar player at that point anyways.
It wouldn't actually shock me if the Kings bought PLD out. The 1/3 buyout makes it a lot more viable

PLD's contract being buyoutable makes it infinitely less bad. Structuring Huberdeau's contract so it can't be bought out was totally uncalled for.
