Contenders already have a guy like Lindholm. He’s going there to cover if that person gets hurt, or to elevate the 3rd line. That’s just facts.

Lindholm can also play wing. Name me a contender team that lindholm couldn’t replace someone in their top 6. He’s not getting picked up to be a 3rd line player.

Really depends on how committed the Canucks are to the Lotto line. If you are going back to Pettersson in the middle, suddenly Guentzel is appealing.

You mean Suter. Blueger, Joshua and Garland are not breaking up any time soon.

Most contenders are flawed due to the cap, and a weak 2nd line center is a pretty common problem. 2nd line Cs are a highly sought after deadline piece.
Some teams like the rental aspect more than a guy with term. That is according to Friedman on 32 thoughts last week. It's not as black and white as rental = less attractive
In fact contenders pretty often get 2nd line centers as rentals and pay a decent price for them. I'm not nearly as cynical as Badger's Nose even if I think Lindholm is kind of overrated.

I'm most interested to see what happens with Saros. Nashville has Askarov as one of the best, if not the best goalie prospect in the league and with them listening now on him (Saros), they could get a ransom for him. Carolina should pay up. Depending what happens with Hart, Philadelphia could be another team or even the Devils out east. In the West, LA would be scary with him in net.

My buddy was sitting beside an executive from the Blue Jackets this morning on a flight to E=NG. Had some conversations and got some insights. These were things that stood out to my buddy during their conversation:
- Said they were interested in Lindholm earlier in the season, didn't give much info on right now
- Was also interested in Monahan but felt it it was too risky with his injuries
- Says there are concerns in the organization about Laine being injury prone and every time he takes a hit they all hold their breaths
- Scouts aren't too big on Hanifin because of his physicality and unwillingness to go into the corners
- Said Conroy is really trying to make deals but no GMs are wanting to make trades at the moment
With this I'm not going to be surprised if we don't make any deals with Columbus.

I am still convinced that Lindholm will garner a really nice return. I know this is the league of Janet Jackson, but I would prefer us sing a new tune instead.
I expect a damn good trade tree continuation here. Kent Nilsson --> Joe Nieuwendyk --> Jarome Iginla --> dead end
Curtis Glencross --> 2nd --> Dougie Hamilton --> Lindholm --> ???
Yes, other combination of pieces involved, obviously. Point is, Lindholm is the crown jewel available this off-season. Sounds like a lot of people are talking themselves down. By the end of the day, Flames are the going to be the ones having to add to Lindholm in order to get under his toxic contract.
He is gong to garner a significant return. RHS Centre/RW. PP, PK, EV+ player. Usually garners some Selke votes which speaks to his 200ft game. Is he a catalyst? Maybe, maybe not. He is most certainly a player who has shown the ability to score 40 goals, while still being defensively responsible.
Hefty return.

Yup, when an opinion is presented as ‘facts’ it is usually just a crappy and incomplete argument

He’ll be there for depth barring injuries to better players that made those teams contenders. Lindholm is not an upgrade to the 1C or 2C on contending teams.
Unless a team over pays, he is not signing an extension. So he’s a rental.
If I had to guess, the holdup on this trade is an extension because Flames want max value in trade. But it’s not happening.

Name the contenders with a better second line centre.

I'm not sure what value he will net, but he's precisely the type of player a contender should be prioritizing:
- He has shown he can produce when paired with other good players, which acquiring teams will have. He doesn't need to be the play driver
- He can play in all situations, and in different positions
- He is a good two-way player, that can be take tough match-ups, creating easier match-ups for your top line.
He's a guy that can really push a team over the top.

I know you're asking C4L but I'm sticking to mine which is
LAMBERT
HEINOLA
for Lindholm 50 percent retained. Jets to me need him most and have the asset depth to spare.

I just don't trust that they will pull the trigger on a big deal like that. Chevy only does that when he's forced to (e.g. PLD).
Also not sold on Lambert, but I agree the talent is there.

Chevy is as pragmatic as they come. A few things point to me that it's time he went for it.
Their main core is nearer to the end of their window.
Hellybuck is a Vezina candidate this year
They have the cap space to add more than Lindholm if needed
Their prospect depth is deep.
Wishy washy point: keeps Lindholm out of his competitors clutches.
