There's no reality where either should return you less, unless the prospect coming back is notable.
If they only fetch one 1st, again, that means Noah is re-signed. Pretty easy to understand.
Whatever they fetch for Tanev is gravy to me. I think they could squeeze a second and a prospect potentially given the appetite there appears to be for the guy (Stars, Leafs). Maybe that's a third, and that's fine.
|
So the third first rounder is the one we already have? You just phrased that kinda strangely.

Agreed. This is my baseline as well. I want them to make at least 3 picks in that first round.

If Hanifin will sign for south of 7 million, get that signature. Otherwise a first for him, first for Lindholm would be ideal.

Will Lindholm still get us a first? I mean will his current play affect his trade vallue?

I'd like to think GMs will not take a myopic view on Lindholm, but he is no spring chicken and it's hard to say whether he'll ever hit big numbers again (assuming he's not traded as a pure rental).

Any pending UFAs are either signed or traded. Absolutely nobody walks to FA any longer.

Lindholm & Tanev traded for picks/prospects.
Hanifin either re-signed at less than 7.5M, or traded.

What I don’t get is, if we agree the compete window is 3-4 years out, what does keeping an aging goaltender like Markstrom, accomplish? Why do we need a blow our socks offer to move on from him? To me, any of the UFAs must be dealt. I don’t think I’ll get pushback on that. But if a reasonable offer comes in for Markstrom, why no cash in on him when his value is high?

Hard to quantify his value not just when in net (keeping us from completely bottoming out), but also mentoring Wolf. In terms of a trade, what's a realistic return? I don't think he fetches a first, unless Bradley gets desperate in Toronto - and that would mean no first or second for 2024 and 2025.

Yeah, I did. Whoops.
I can see why upon first read it would look like outlandish expectations.

All good. Man, somehow snagging three firsts from trades, making it four first rounders this year, could see us in very good shape in the next 2-4 years. Won't happen though.

Because Conroy and the Flames would never give up a playoff hope
And I doubt they have as much faith in Wolf as some people here

Its hard not to feel despair until then.

The losses to Toronto and Edmonton demonstrated the lack of top end talent more than anything (even thought the team skated with both opponents just fine).
This should scream to Connie and co. that they need to fill the cupboards at the deadline.
Extending this core will just bring more of the same. There's no upside in hanging on to any one, except more mediocrity.

All three UFAs and one of our goalies ( not wolf) traded.
With respect to our return: a 1st, and a couple seconds would be nice with some late round pick and prospects sprinkled in there.

Yep, a Cup contender this roster ain't. To get there, a pretty big shake-up is needed and there might not be a better time than now. I'm assuming you don't count the younger guys as part of the core though.
Anyone not named Zary, Coronato, Wolf or Pelletier is expendable (sorry Rasmus).

So assuming we can get another two 1st rd picks (Lindholm/Hanifin), wondering a few things:
1. Would you trade all three 1st rd picks (Lindholm/Hanifin) + our own 1st rd to whoever wins the draft lottery for a chance to draft Celebrini (assuming whoever wins the draft would be willing to make that trade)
2. Hang on to all three picks and make the selections similar to 2013 (Monahan/Klimchuk/Poirier)
3. Trade any of the two picks obtained for young players already discussed in here for a quicker retool (Zegras,Grieg, etc)

1. No one is making that trade
2. Yes, but not compare it to the 2013 draft class
3. Sure, but neither of those players will be moved for that

I doubt the team, who has 1st overall selection, would accept the offer....
three 1st likely in the bottom half of the draft is no where close enough.
My guess, if they acquire addtional 1st rounders, they make the selections
