Don't send them Markstrom in that case.

Wat? Markstrom's been great. But given the history I wouldn't trust him against the Coil.

Adin Hill on the other hand, let's hope he's ready to go come playoffs.

By being an insufferable troll. The board has been so much more enjoyable without his spam.

Even in death Spurs finds a way to take over 3 pages of a thread, he's like Jesus.

Can we go back to rumors and speculations?

He can circumvent bans through sheer negativity, but you think the ignore list is going to be what stops him?

Spurs is love, I say.

I mean just using good old fashioned will power. No ignore list necessary.

What does success for the Flames at the trade deadline look like to y'all?

Coming away with 3 picks in the first round (2 through trades) and a couple of prospects or young roster players. A cap dump or two in there is fine.

3 x 1sts at this draft is a must for me given the assets we're sitting on and the ability the Flames should have to pit bidders against one another.

If there is less than 3, that better be an indicate that Hanifin is re-signing here.

Edit: to clarify, am implying the 3rd is the Flames' own. So two 1sts at the deadline.

Do you really think Tanev fetches a first? Hanifin does, but Elias is having a down year by anyone's standards.

A 1st for Elias, a 1st for Noah, plus whatever the adds are.

There's no reality where either should return you less, unless the prospect coming back is notable.

If they only fetch one 1st, again, that means Noah is re-signed. Pretty easy to understand.

Whatever they fetch for Tanev is gravy to me. I think they could squeeze a second and a prospect potentially given the appetite there appears to be for the guy (Stars, Leafs). Maybe that's a third, and that's fine.

I really don’t see the Flames making the playoffs this year, so I want to see them make drastic decisions to setup for the futures. This is what I would like to see:

Hanifin: either signed or traded for combination of blue chip prospects or picks
Tanev: traded for picks or a good prospect
Lindholm: traded for package of blue chip prospects and/or picks
Vladar: traded for picks

I see Markstrom as a better option to mentor Wolf and to help the team to “stay competitive” next year (I want to watch a fun, competitive team, not a team where a win is a surprise)

  • Trade Lindholm and Tanev regardless of where we are in the standings.
  • Trade or re-sign Hanifin—but if you're re-signing, have that locked up before the deadline. Otherwise trade him.
  • Trade Markstrom if there's a fantastic deal to be had. If not, no worries.
  • Trade for futures if we're out of it, young players with upside if we're going to make the playoffs. But lean towards futures.
  • Use the retention slots and take on expiring cap dumps to get the best deals.

Lindholm, Tanev, and Hanifin moved out for high picks and/or young prospects that have top 6 forward or top 4 defenseman potential. Don't want a single player back that projects to middle 6 (this organization has an abundance of this type) or bottom pairing depth regardless of their age. If there's a market for Vladar and they can get a 3rd round pick then trade him too.

Two additional first round picks. As long as Lindholm gets traded, I don't really care who else gets sent out/brought in outside of that. Prioritize two additional first round picks while saying goodbye to Lindholm - that's success in my eyes.

I think the scouting staff here has earned the chance to be able to really make their mark on the direction of this team moving forward.

The draft is the bloodline of this organization, and is the only way to find real success in a market like this.

perceived quality of trades is pretty dependent on the market that we may or may not be privy to, so for me it's managing to trade Lindholm and Tanev. If you can't extend Hanafin trade him too. But I'd be fine with an extension.
