Perhaps.
Who would the Flyers have interest in? Hanifin, I’m guessing.

I do think he’s right that the Flames will use the picks from selling their UFAs to target prospects and younger roster players.

Love hearing Duhatchek stuff because, instead of just throwing a bunch of stuff against the wall (like most guys), he thinks about things, and dives a little deeper, before coming out with something. So when he does come out with something, it a) makes sense and b) has a chance of materializing.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were looking at Johansson, to see if he has lost a step and can't play in the top six anymore.

First, Zegras doesn’t have trade protection, so he wouldn’t have a choice in the matter if the Ducks did trade him to Calgary. But if you’re the Flames, you’d also want some sort of assurance that Zegras wouldn’t be looking for a way out of town as soon as he arrived – and that he’d at least give it a fair chance to see if playing in a small Canadian market, with a high degree of scrutiny, was right for him.
|
This was the first thing that Duhatschek mentioned when discussing a Zegras and Calgary trade.

Very likely getting a read on Ryan Johansen.
My opinion is that any deal with the Avalanche for Lindholm will include Johansen and his $4M contract.

They could maybe consider looking at Lindy.
Frost, when playing, has been slotted as their 2/3 centre.
Lindholm would give them a huge upgrade in that regard (plays more of a Torts style) and allow them to have three centres who are all very capable defensively.

Doubt they’d be scouting a cap dump.

They would if they require him to end the year on the second line, and probably next year as well. They also want to check his on-ice habits and make sure that he would translate good habits to all of the Flames young guys.
All in all, I would see this as a positive step forward for an Avalanche trade, which is great because I like either Byram or Ritchie!

I am really starting to sour on Byram. Very talented player but that is no good if he is constantly injured.

That’s the only reason he’d be available. Take a swing on his health. Still don’t think the avs trade him for Lindholm though

Area scouts always attend games. I wouldn't read much into it. The Flames and other teams have programs in place where they can watch every shift for a player (including most junior games), and every save or goal for goalies.

I like Byram but are his injuries just bad luck or is there more to it? That's my concern.

What is Byram out with? I know it’s simplistic to say he’s always injured, but are these accidents or is it something chronic (ie: back or concussion issues) he’s dealing with? If chronic, agreed he’s a pass. But if it’s just a series of misfortunes where it’s relating to his strength of his muscles or something along those lines, it’s take him in a heartbeat and work with him on getting stronger.

Yup the 2nd in that proposal still needs to be a 1st IMO.
Byram is in his draft + 5, hasn't taken the steps people expected and can't stay healthy.
Johansen, Byram, 1st ... sure but it starts to looks underwhelming if it's a 2nd. Taking the extra year of Johansen with $4M attached is worth a 2nd on its own
