Ya, that's true, and for most people it's a non-issue. And most families have 2 vehicles, so shouldn't have much problem making at least one of them an EV. But if you do want to use it for visiting family regularly in Edmonton, or going skiing in the mountains it does become an issue to consider, because you no longer have a quick fill up on route, nor will you probably pre-heat the cabin if you have to mind every watt.

I've kinda found a quick shorthand for winter range is to use the miles range number as km in the winter, just for an idea of how it translates.

Look...I dont disagree.

Its a mental thing. I'm also a 'late adopter' when it comes to products like this. I might come around at some point, but I'm not going to get in line to get something brand new.

I didn't know you can run the gas engine when the car is garaged. Good to know.

I didn’t know you needed to heat an electric car in a heated garage. Good to know.

A tire inflator is nice but a hydraulic jack is a must have in my vehicles.

When did it become normal for shops to insist rotors need to be replaced when pad replacement is due? I call BS.

Naw...thats pretty standard.

The rotors and pads wear into each other. If you replace one but not the other there is going to be an uneven wear pattern and you're going to get 'shuddering' when braking.

You can replace the pads and get the rotors 'turned' which is basically just having them shaved flat, but you diminish their useful life.

The labor to get them turned usually makes replacement the better option unfortunately.

Seems like rotors are built with such small margins, no one will turn them these days. I’ve only replaced the rotors a couple times when they’re warped or highly grooved. I’ve found if they’re relatively smooth and I bed them properly, they perform great. No noise, shuddering etc. Just seems recently they always want to replace both when the pads are due, regardless of rotor condition.

You're absolutely right.

The only exception being if they're some kind of 'specialized' performance rotor, in which case again, you'd want to replace pads and rotors at the same time.

So...yeah, pads and rotors at the same time. Pretty much always.

Seems to be the way the automotive business has gone, unfortunately. Replace everything. Do as little diagnosis and repair as possible. Best to find a small repair shop you trust.

I don't heat it in the winter, not when cars are inside this massively accelerates rust. Nice try though.
