Fun game to be at, lots of flames fans and it didn’t feel like we were the visiting team.
As mentioned the “Oilers Suck” chant directed at the two no goods from Shellbyville in their Oilers jerseys was great fun. We let them hear it a few times!

Why would anyone wear Oiler jerseys to a Flames-Coyotes tilt in Arizona? Maybe they thought Mullett Arena was too small for there to be enough Flames fans to give them grief? Or maybe they just enjoy 2.5 hours of public ridicule.

Yup....horsehair stuffing was great for absorbing shots....and moisture.
My pads would easily weigh 20 lbs more after a game than they did at the beginning, and they were not light to begin with.

If the Flames hadn't dropped a couple of games to horrible teams, they'd be in a playoff spot....I'm generally team tank, but I have no idea with this team.
Huberdeau looked like his old self last night. A few classic moves. Gaining the zone, stickhandling to draw the defenders in, and then feeding a dead on pass for an easy goal on the far side. I saw endless highlights of him doing that in Florida, and that's why I thought he was the real deal.
If there is a small re-tool this year and Huberdeau comes back at full force, the team could be good and navigate their UFA situation with great asset management.

I remember when the old stuffing came out in our street hockey pads we would stuff old socks and sew them up. Back then you might as well of taped a few yellow pages to you legs.

Whatever they look like, this team needs to either sell or extend their UFA's
Cannot walk assets to free agency anymore

Great win, Huby has never looked better as a Flame than his last ~10 games. I am believer that he can turn it around and be a PPG player for multiple years to come, you can see it is still all there. There is a positive correlation in how good he plays and how many spins passes he successfully completes.
I think Kadri should be replaced on PP1 by Zary, assuming Zary can play net front

He almost looks like he's looking to the bench at the end (as in "see what happens when I'm on the first unit?").

couple of observations from me - I know you all have been wating
But when Andersson plays like that and forces plays going forward and pinches, he is really awesome. When he hesitates and tries to be cute - not so much
Like most everyone here, very happy to see #10 turn a corner. He really does have great playmaking abilities and its not dependent on pure speed. He is very creative

Confidence is one thing for Huberdeau...the other thing is he's getting the puck with way more time and space.
It was weird but it felt like for a while whenever he got the puck it felt like a defender was immediately in his hip pocket and pressuring him.
All of a sudden now it feels like he has space to make these plays.
Somebody mentioned it in the game thread about how it felt like linemates were skating towards him, and then passing him the puck, which almost led to defenders being on him immediately.
Now it feels like there is better spacing on the ice and it's opening up more space.

That was me, and it was about Backlund in particular. Backs did it again last night, just not to Huberdeau, on one particular breakout. He skated up the left side within 6 feet of his winger the whole way. Maybe the winger should have read it and criss-crossed but it really cut the ice down.

Its pretty much like football. You can't have the QB throwing the ball through people to a receiver who has a DB in front of him.
That is why a lot of his passes have gone to crap.
Sharangovich seems to understand the assignment. Get him the puck and go and get into open space and he will get you the puck. Do not skate to him, do not take a defender and skate into traffic. No one can make those passes.
Confidence is a hell of a drug. That dangle for the hatty goal you don't see many players do that in tight spaces like that.

It wasn't even after he had the puck though, he was before he had the puck.
It'd would be more like the QB running 10 yards towards his receiver, and then right before all the defenders have converged on you you do a short pass to the receiver and say "your problem now"
