It's too bad, as initially that was a great service, and I inevitably bought a couple of other things when I was there. If they had raised the prices more gradually I'd probably still be there multiple times per week.
They just didn't have enough customers. I'd be surprised if they even did one turn a day.

Late 60's, it was a different time. They even wore uniforms upstairs. No +15s when I was growing up in Tuxedo Park. The Summit Hotel and Robinhood flour mill were the tallest buildings down there till the Husky tower was built.
A kid could walk or bike downtown and parents didn't call the cops because you were gone all day. But I know I like the way we raised our kids better than what my parents did.

Ha ha. No, they bring in different varieties of cantaloupes and honeydews.

There's lots of different varieties of common fruits and vegetables that aren't wide-scale viable. Like Nantes carrots. Way better than the imperiator variety that is commonly sold in grocery stores, but because they break easily during shipping, you only really see them at farmers' markets.

Oh man, you didn't know about the dining hall on the top floor of The Bay?!

It was called the Elizabethan Room, and it took up about 2/3 of the 6th floor:

One time around 2018 I wandered into one of the bathrooms on the 4th or 5th floor when it was selling furniture. It was magical. Like a timewarp to the 1920s. I hope they didn't tear them down with the renos to the new entertainment facility.

Crumbl is opening in Quarry Park on the 19th. This is not an endorsement, but a warning. Stay far, far away from this place. They will steal your soul.

I liked the Co-op cafeteria shakes. They came in a tin and everything.

When I was a kid, we ate in department store cafeterias a lot for some reason. K-Mart, Woolco, Zellers, The Bay, Sears, as well as the Co-op.

From what I remember, the food wasn't anything special, but I used to love the chocolate pudding cups with a dollop of whipped cream on top.

The reason is they were cheap and convenient. Especially for moms shopping with young kids.

Wait, what kind of Larceny are we talking about here?

Like...bust your kneecaps with a pipe type theft or a Mogwai stealing your heart kind of thing?

This seems like one of those cool urban exploration opportunities. I wonder how to get up there to poke around a bit?

Can't go up there anymore. The Bay downtown closed the basement and floors 4 and above.

Part of the fun is that "closed" is just a sign on the door.
