Ducks would ask for Andersson.

Just doesn’t make sense for either side. We’d give up the older but better player.

I'm wondering what people think we can get for Markstrom? I don't see a huge package being returned. It will be like any other deal and something we don't want is likely to come back with what we target. I suspect we're still in that "B" level prospect range and a mid-round pick for Markstrom on his own. As part of a larger package we might be able to extract a higher pick, but that will be with a poison apple returning.

Except PLD has a high of 63 points in his career. And been kind of a mid player everywhere he's been.

In a vacuum, I agree with you and think that he's worth little. Maybe I'm drinking the koolaid lately, but there does seem to be way more goalie desperation around the league this year than in other years. That could boost the return.

IMO outside of present conditions league wide, we likely would not be able to trade him at all without a significant add.

I really like the notion of using Markstrom as an add on to Lindholm to certain contenders. Like Colorado. That's probably where we could get the most added value.

1 for 1?

I'd give up Andersson in a heartbeat for Zegras.

Which part? The part where I acknowledge he’s improved from last year? Or that he still isn’t up to snuff? Because his save percentage is ranked pretty low against his peers.

Problem there is the maximum value you would get out of Lindholm as an uber-cheap center is countered by the big hit Markstrom brings to the table. Removes the vast majority of the league from the mix. Markstrom gets moved on his own IMO because of the term in his contract.

Zegras is a good skill competition guy. When it comes to being a complete hockey player he is far from it. Stay away from these types of players.

Here is the list of active goalies 31+ years old that make as much as Markstrom:

Bobrovsky

If someone gives you an out, please take it.

Zegras getting overrated here a bit, IMO. Is a career 60 point player, but has only done it on extremely weak rosters, and was frequently criticized for his defensive game. He was struggling this season prior to his lower body injury. Also screams a guy who will flee to the Rangers the moment he is a free agent.

His closest comparable is Vladar and he is smoking him right now. Markstrom has the highest high danger save percentage in the league. He is back to good this year.

Zegras is overrated because of his marketing flare, no doubt. But does every player on a team have to be a two way player? Look at the composition around the league. How many guys are even decent two way forwards when they have skill. I’d say there are very few of them. So why not bring a skilled player like him if he’s available. He’s not THE answer but he’s skilled and that’s sorely needed. He’s a secondary piece.

The guy is 22.

In 200 NHL games, he has 146 points - and he's been playing on a tire fire of a team.

I'd 100% trade Andersson for that.

The idea that Zegras is overrated because he's done the michigan? Nah, look at his production. Look at his skillset. Critizing him for not being a two way player? He's a 22 year old centre.

I’m open to the discussion. So why is his save percentage so low? He’s anecdotally letting in poor goals from what I see.

I think that to a team in their contending window that needs a goaltender that Markstrom is worth the equivalent of a second and third round pick.

That would be a second round pick and a 5-8 prospect on a teams list.

If you are retaining 1/3 on the contract then I think it becomes the equivalent of 2 second round picks or a late first round pick. Once it is a first round pick then you are getting a 6-10 teams prospect.

Best bet would be that you would trade Markstom $2M retained and Tanev at 50% retained and that should get you a first round pick and a 3-5 team prospect. Teams are looking at doing a better job of decreasing goals against than Tanev is the perfect person to go over with Markstrom.

I'd love to scoop up Zegras at a bargain...if thats even possible. But for Andersson? Not even close.

If and when we decide to move Andersson, the haul will be massive

You could send the 1st to the Flames instead, and I still wouldn't take it unless it was a lock to be a lottery pick.
