That offer is easily beaten by many teams. Can’t see Anaheim moving a young player for a collection of average and overpaid vets without a top pick coming back.

I think the Ducks would want a comparable young player in return. Likely a Dman

Campbell had a save percentage of 0.914, 0.921, and 0.915 in the 3 years before he came to EDM. He even had .928, and .924 seasons with the Kings before that. Do you think of him as anything other than a cap-dump at this point?

Even when you account for the volatility of the position, there's still the contract to consider. Markstrom was in a similar position in the off-season. The remaining 3 x $6M wasn't something any GM wanted, or wants to pay a sub .900 goalie.

Right now, Markstorm is worth the assets because he's massively outperforming his $6M price tag, and now there's talk about a potential salary retention to bring it down to $3M. It didn't seem likely, a couple of months ago, when you couldn't say the word rebuild. Now a Vezina caliber goaltender making $3M, could be something worth gambling a couple of firsts on, especially to a GM with a dire need of goaltending.

If all it took was one bad year to erase a Vezina runner up season which was only 2 years removed from a 4th place Vezina finish than 24 games should be enough to reverse the bad stretch no?

I'm pretty sure they weren't offering 1st round picks for him before these 24 games.

Folded like a pup tent in the playoffs against Edmonton and now he's making 2-on-0 saves in January against Ottawa, so teams must be lining up to send us premium picks and pay the 2.5x$6M.

I'd like to hear which goalies you think put up better numbers than Markstrom behind this team's atrocious defense.

There's probably less than 10 names on that list if we're being honest here.

How do the Flames have atrocious defense? The Flames are fine both in expected goals against and high danger chances against.
Not great by any means, but I’d also say far from atrocious.

even at the time, it looked like the Kings were out of their mind making this trade, this trade has set Winnipeg up nicely. The NHL much like the NFL is so obseesed with the tangibles, he is a big center, has skill etc., clearly he has little motivation, especially after getting the 8.5 per. Guy had red flags too

This can't be true.

I want the numbers, because the eye test says no ####ing way they're "fine".

I disagree, people were tripping over themselves to to give 30 year old Huberdeau more time to adjust. Dubois is 25, in the first year of a deal with a new team. Yeah he is on pace for only 35 points, but there is still 3 years left in his scoring prime.

His value is a tough one to nail down. Not sure about the defense, but his numbers have correlated very closely to pressure situations, in the wrong way.

They have 82.77 expected goals against, which is the 15th highest.
They have 80 high danger shots against, which is the 18th highest.
The Flames have 271 giveaways, which is the 13th highest.

Ducks have lots of defense prospects.
Ducks want to trade Gibson.

Deal that the Ducks would take would be

Flames - Zegras

Ducks - Wolf, 2024 1st round pick

I think it's fair to adjust goalie value based on a bad season for sure. If it's a fear that that is the new trend, buyer beware.

Toronto media certainly felt that with Campbell. Hilarious the Oilers bit.

But was that the Markstrom story? Pretty strange year in Calgary for the entire team, turmoil off the ice. He was great in Vancouver, good then hurt in Calgary, a Vezina nominee, then a bump in the road.

Don't think they equate then or now.

The extent of the struggles don't equate either.

Campbell is the back up in the AHL right now. Lost the starting job there. You want to move that contract and you should be paying at least 2 1sts
