I didn't list Seguin because he wasn't a rebuild pick. Boston was 14th in the NHL in 2009-10 and actually made the playoffs. The Seguin pick was acquired in the Kessel trade if I'm not mistaken(Seguin + D. Hamilton). I didn't list guys like Sergechev(9th) for TBL, because he was acquired for a rebuild asset in Drouin(3rd), so I just concentrated on the draft side.

Boston actually had several top 10 picks outside the ones I listed, I just didn't think they fit this rebuild/retool.

95 9th overall - McLaren
96 8th overall - Aitken(bust)
97 1st overall - Thornton
00 7th overall - Jonsson(bust)

I think a 1st + 2022 15th Overall + Kuzmenko is a pretty significant offer. I don’t imagine offers will be better than that.

You know what, Kuzmenkos deal isn't long enough to fret about.

Yeah, you want Lindholm , that's a deal.

What you are really saying is, that deal is done if it's on offer.

I'd certainly take a deal like - but who knows. It'll be fun to see what Conroy accomplishes in the next two months.

I don't know if the Canucks have an offer that suits the Flames needs. It would very likely have to be something like Lekkerimakki, 2024 1st and Kuzmenko to make the dollars work. Not sure that's a price Allvin is willing to pay yet.
I could retain half on Lindholm and half on Tanev and still be happy with that return. Maybe Garland instead of Kuzmenko but Lekkerimaki would be a home run acquisition.

Why does trading a rental to a rival matter at all ?

This is the typical Flames thinking that contributes to the 3 decades of failure

Get the best return . Worry about your own team , not your “rivals”

He also reminds me a ton of a Sharangovich like pick up.

He was a guy that looked great one year, but really the team he's on just had other guys take that role and he was left without a role.

The guy had 74 points in 81 games last year...if he's the "throw in" you're laughing.

Can we as fanbases just make this trade...somebody call up the GMs. I'd even be willing to swap Williander for Lekkerimaki if Vancouver would prefer.

Flames should be all over Kuzmenko if possible, ideal pump and dump guy

Yeah, that's another pick we could extract. I hate Vancouver but that would be a very nice offer.

Even if it doesn't happen now as part of a bigger trade I'd gladly take him in the offseason as a cap dump with 1 x $5.5M left on his deal.

The flames should definitely be getting at least two first round picks if they trade Hanifin and Lindholm (one for each). It would be great if those picks ended up being from teams lower in the standings. Trading Lindholm or Hanifin to Vancouver, Winnipeg or Boston would, right now, be a pick outside the top 22. Where as, if they could get first round picks from teams like New Jersey, Washington or Pittsburgh, they could end up with picks in the top 20 unless those teams make it to the finals. Would be a great scenario to end up picking 4 times in the top 20 of the draft.

Of course, you have to take the best offer… this is speculating on what could be a great scenario. Teams that are high up in the standings might offer an additional 2nd pick or a good prospect to offset the likely higher value of a first round pick from a team lower in the standings. One of the benefits of trades not happening until the TDL, the flames might have a clearer picture of the likely range of any first round picks they receive.

I have no problem if the Flames get a premium from division rivals... they're still 3+ years from contending anyway. So there shouldn't be any limitation on who they deal with (except maybe Edmonton). I like that deal quite a bit... throw in Tanev for a 2nd+Garland if they must.

There is zero chance the flames are getting the Canucks top prospect, especially after the WJC he just had, AND a first rounder

I think Kuzmenko's problem is, at least in part, due to a difference in philosophy with the coach. IMO, he could be totally salvageable, much like Sharangovich. The real gem(s) in that deal, in my estimation, would be Lekkerimaki and the first.

I liked Lekkerimaki at the Draft, and I like him now. He was a killer at the Hlinka, he was a killer at the U-18's, and he was a killer again at this year's WJC. Beautiful player, and so much so that I doubt they would let him go.

For the record, the package I suggested is not something I would expect the Canucks to accept. I do think that sort of deal is the starting point for a Lindholm deal (The Horvat, as it were), and would imagine that would be what the Flames would ask for.

Garland - Blueger - Joshua is the Canucks second best line currently, so no shot. Kuzmenko is the one on the table because cash has to go out and he very clearly doesn't fit Tocchet's idea of player when he isn't scoring every second game.

If the Flames resign Hanifin, the Canucks is a spot where you dangle Andersson since they are in a bit of a pinch on defense after this season. Build a deal around Andersson and Lindholm

To VAN
Lindholm (50% retained)
Andersson

To CGY
Lekkerimäki
Wallinder
Kuzmenko
2024 1st

Vancouver considers this for a couple reasons. I think Lindholm would sign given the talent there. It also helps the Canucks convince Petterson they are committed to winning now to get him signed. Andersson gives them a rock solid 1B/2A pair defenseman that is going to contribute in their window before Wallinder will be able.

These are the type of situations where Calgary should look at weaponizing Anderssons value due to his contract.
