Zegras feels like an Oiler. All style no substance.

I don't think Colorado wants anything to do with that. I think Anaheim would jump at it.

I don't think that's fair. I think Zegras is trying to learn to play a complete game. He just very clearly doesn't know how to do things that aren't skill based yet. He has the potential to learn, but he has to keep putting that effort in. If he figures it out, he could be an elite-level player in the NHL

Zegras reminds me alot of nylander.
Lots of skill but selfish and soft especially earlier in his career.
Nylander has really popped off recently as he has matured.
Similar numbers too.
Zegras could have a similar trajectory.
Sell all the UFAs then flip a couple assets for zegras.
The Dach deal is a good framework

Moot, IMO we don't have the type of piece Anaheim would want in that trade outside of our 1st this year, and that shouldn't be traded for any reason.
Personally I don't see motivation for them to trade Zegras unless they are really afraid of a character issue or something. He's not performing like he could this year, but their roster sucks. It would be a bad move for them to move away from a 20 year old who put up over 60 points 2 straight years in the league just because they aren't feeling the mix. Especially with Gauthier in there now, he seems like a player that would jive really well with Zegras' style.
All that said, I would be pitching Hanifin to them hard if that's an angle they are interested in. Hanifin + Dube lol.

I think we’re all forgetting that Zegras is only 22, and already has two seasons of 60-plus points. He’s struggling from injuries this year, but he’ll be a star player in a few years.
And don’t forget, he plays for the Ducks.

Francis confidently saying he thinks hanifin is signed over next 2-3 weeks 7.5x8.
Hopefully he's wrong and it's posturing

Who better to use as a puppet than somebody without the capacity to notice?
Or at least I certainly hope they're just pretending to offer $1M and 2 years too much.

I don't know, i've been thinking for a while that if there was 1 UFA to keep for the rebuild/tool, it would be Hanifin. still young, with 1st pairing potential and he's likely going to be the hardest to find/replace in the draft with his skillset.
Trading Tanev and Lindholm will still bring a decent haul.
But really, i'm good if they trade Hanifin too, not too picky.

Wasn't it reported that Hanifin & his agent had been given permission to talk to other teams?
I wonder if the market is softer then they expected, so they're circling back our last offer.

Why would we not lower the offer with the change in situation. 7MM x 8 years! He’s had time to look around and knows his value is not as high as he thinks.

I mean, everyone should available to be moved. But you can't trade everyone. So let's focus on trading the pending UFAs that will bring the biggest return. In a couple years, that list will probably include Coleman, and hopefully there will be other guys around who are good mentors.
|
Exactly ... no one in on the keep Coleman no matter what train.
But if the return is a 3rd I wouldn't do it.

What is this team trying to accomplish though? Re-sign hanifin and they will just end up in the same spot next season. 10th-16th finish.
I wouldnt call moving two older UFAs a rebuild. I'm not sure I would even call in a retool. That's just the natural roster change of a team year to year.
Unless the plan is to re-sign hanifin and continue to move other guys under contract. Then I could get behind that.

Zegras seems is not an answer for us. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a suitcase travelling around the league by 28, unless he can truly dig in an become a tough 2-way player his talent isn't going to carry him far enough.

I know others wouldn't agree...but I could get behind re-signing Hanifin, moving Andersson (would have more value with his contract and as a RH shot), and moving forward with the top pair of Hanifin-Weegar as the veteran blue liners moving forward.

There are a lot of new players to the league like that. Great if it’s no contact in the regular season.

So as it is now the Flames are going to have a couple of million dollars of capspace. If the cap is going up $5 million and we’re dumping one or more of Lindholm, Hanifin and Tanev they are going to have a lot of flexibility this offseason.

Ugh, please no. Conroy has got to be smarter than handing out 8-year deals like this.
If not, just save the GM money and let some AI robot do it.
