Likely better than that, but not the rumoured packages being posted.
Especially if you think Lindholm and Tanev are determined to not extend with anyone and walk to free agency

Joe Sakic is his boss.

Doesn’t Lanny McDonald text current Flame players with encouragement and hang out with them at the Dome and on the road? Great! That’s a mentor too.

Isn’t Iginla employed by the Flames again? That’s two mentors that are pretty hard to beat.

If you need someone on the bench with you then they have Backlund and Kadri and Huberdeau already. None of them are going anywhere soon.

Even then. Lindholm should get a minimum of a 1st. I don’t think Tanev’s value changes all that much extension or not. 2nd + a B prospect

Butterfly will fight to the death for the right to trade Coleman.

That’s a bit extreme… 😔

I wouldn’t be actively shopping Coleman with the other three we have, but if someone offers you something like what Poe969 mentioned, I think you would be a fool to say no because you need Coleman around to mentor people.

Seravalli has three Flames in the top 5 trade targets.

Lindholm at 1
Tanev at 3
Hanifin at 5

https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/da...-trade-targets

it really is a unique chance for this franchise. Don't eff this up.

That's the thing though. Everyone agrees that if you're offered something stupid, you take it. That's true of ANY player.

But unless that happens (and it almost certainly won't), you don't trade him because he is worth more as that mentor than he is going to get you in a trade.

I mean, everyone should available to be moved. But you can't trade everyone. So let's focus on trading the pending UFAs that will bring the biggest return. In a couple years, that list will probably include Coleman, and hopefully there will be other guys around who are good mentors.

Us, after they re-sign Hanifin and Tanev and acquire Ryan Johansen and Miles Wood for Elias Lindholm in an effort to keep the "window" open from 7th last in the league:

From the article:

Scoop: Hanifin is a tricky one for the Flames. In a perfect world, not all their pending free agents can fly out the door, they’ve got to keep one or two to allow them to compete next year...
I had the same reaction when I read that line.

In a perfect world, ALL UFAs go out the door. And IMO, a couple of others.

The FA forward crop looks deep enough to snag some depth at reasonable cost.

The Defense FA crop is meh, I just don't see how the Flames move the competitive needle next year without some smart navigating.

didn't say what we would compete for though. Maybe the lottery.

If anyone in the organization thinks that a combination of the assembled players we have here today will compete next season, they need to be shown the door immediately. That's detached from reality.

I've been wondering about Zegras. His injuries have slowed him down. And Anaheim won't have Leo Carlsson for a while.

Do the Flames have assets that won't hurt the re-whatever to get him from Verbeek?

Zegras has unreal talent, but to put a giant cliche out there: he has to find that next gear. When I watch the Ducks play, he seems so out of his depth when his skill can't carry him. Like he doesn't know what to do when a slick move and skill play isn't the right answer to the question put forth on the ice.

I wonder if the Ducks are seeing if a team that is looking to reload/retool instead of rebuild (like Calgary but not specifically) may be willing to offer up a pick that isn't lottery protected for a kid like Zegras who oozes star power. I can see the Ducks wanting as many bullets as they can to get a guy who is from "close to home" in Celebrini who has spent large chunks of his life in California.

Zegras is an interesting one from a marketing standpoint but honestly, is he that star the team is looking for when you need your big guy to produce? I’m moving toward no. First liner in the future yup, but he’d be a secondary piece to the superstar you need to build around. I don’t think Zegras is the guy you build around. Much like Gaudeau or Nylander or Marner or a dozen other stars around the league. It’s easy to say that’s your guy and fill yourself to thinking the rebuild is done but you need a consistent star take the team on its back and I don’t think Zegras is that guy. A young team like Anaheim should be keeping him though. Just aim to draft really high.

Zegras is the beer league guy that has great skill but hangs out at the red line waiting for that pass.

I wouldn't actually be surprised if they took a look at more of a lateral move for a player that similarly hasn't maybe fit in as hoped.

Bowen Byram for Trevor Zegras would be an interesting starting point for example.

or maybe Lafreniere for Zegras as another example. Florida would probably look at Lundell for Zegras...feel like Tkachuk and Zegras would be fun. Cozens for Zegras is another one...those guys have seem tied closely together forever.

If they pick up multiple 1sts maybe but the rangers could be a good fit with Laf and Kakko
