Had a company dinner tonight in downtown San Jose and a couple family members of a scout (wife and brother) work for my company and they mentioned SJ has shown some interest in Dillon Dube. Take it for what it’s worth. Just passing along what I heard.

First of all I agree he has been the best forward, and a huge leader on this team.
Why trade him?
1. He doesn't fit this team's contending window
2. He's 32, and he's signed for 3 more years after this one, will he play at the same level when he's 35?
3. This team has several wingers that might benefit from a larger role next year: Pelletier, Coronato, and maybe Honzek/Klapka
3b. Top 9 wingers on this team next year(7-10 players fighting for 6 spots): Huberdeau, Mangiapane, Coleman, Sharangovich, Zary(unless he plays C), Pospisil, Pelletier, Coronato, Dube(?), Ruzicka(?)
4. A team might overpay

A lineup with that top 4, filled out with Calgary Wranglers, should have easily been enough to control that game today.
|
Because there’s a complete absence of elite players at forward.
If Huberdeau rebounds to the player he has been for five of the last seven years, they have one.
Very hard to win in the NHL with 0-to-1 elite forwards.

I like Dube. But they can have him if it’s true. He has really taken a step back this season.

Dube for Duclair was mentioned a couple of times as a potential swap. Personally I would be all for it.
I could also see two change of scenery candidates traded for eachother in Dube and Luostarinen. Both are 25, and both had a hard time taking over the #3C spot. Luostarinen who is having a terrible season, has 10P compared to Dube's 7P, but has been playing a lot more minutes in FLA.
Luostarinen had 17G, 43P last year compared to Dube's 18G, and 45P.

I cant speak for everyone, but I think "most" of the trade Hanifin crowd definitely don't underestimate him, more so realize what kind of return a young D of his magnitude can bring.
It's more so his desire to not extend originally and look elsewhere coupled with the fact that the Flames need to stop investing in this core and what he could bring back would better help the Flames long term.

Only reason I would is because he will get us a great return for the future. And right now, that's the most important thing for this franchise.

We can dream but in the end I think he'll go top 5 maybe even top 3, another Tiger making waves in the scouting world is Basha, don't over look this kid, he has serious skill and makes plays in traffic like a Marner, a Panarin or a Kaprizov.
And he's a Calgary boy

They can have him for an autographed Joe Thornton portrait.

When his salary was what, 1.8 million, they were happy to trade the higher of the two first round picks they had plus a decent prospect at the time in Cal Foote for him. The type of package you give up for an "Average" player.
Flames05 is just being his usual Dumbarse self. No doubt excited about two straight losses so he can spew more crap and feel satisfied.
In no world is Coleman an average player. Maybe a tad expensive, but come playoffs many teams would love to have him.

It’s gonna be Dube for Duclair isn’t it?

I'd do that trade all day. See if Duclair can fit into the top-9, which is something Dube hasn't been able to do.

My concern is that it's possible that dube is just going through some personal issues and maybe he can come back from this.
