Mercer and Holtz are 11 draft spots apart, just for reference. I am okay with either

I’d be shocked if Hanifin got a 1st and Mercer. Right up there with Byram and a 1st from the Avs. It would sure be sweet

Fair point. Especially when the Flames seemingly have a glut on the wing and thinner on centre post Lindholm

Everyone complains about Spurs and then when he posts something 8 people reply. If you dislike him so much stop giving him so much attention.

Yeah I think Holtz is more likely just because Mercer is already a bigger part of the team.
Hanifin for the Devils is an interesting long term play for sure, that helps now and the future. They could use another LH dman.
LH: Hughes, Siegenthaler
RH: Hamilton, Marino, Nemec
Add Hanifin to that mix and's a pretty impressive d-core for the foreseeable future.

I think people are undervaluing an extended Hanifin here, especially for a team who's ambitions are the SC and their top D man is out. I would find an extended Hanifin straight up for Mercer a little underwhelming.

My guess is as soon as Kylington is up to speed they'll pull the trigger on a Hanifin trade
Weegar - Andersson
Kylington - Tanev
Gilbert/Oesterle - DeSimone

Agreed, I and others do undervalue our own players consistently. I just really like Mercer.
That said, I really like Hanifin - more so this year than ever.

Aw geez you guys. Got me thinking about adding Holtz/Mercer and Byram and then watching the Flames go to the draft and pick three players in round 1??
And that's just from trading Hanifin and Lindholm. They could still trade a retained Tanev and maybe a long shot at Markstrom as well.

That would be one impressive retool when you think about it.

Depends on your view of Mercer. getting him would be huge. I'd prefer Mercer straight up over Holtz and a 1st.
But I get that many would disagree.

I don't think they wait for Kylington. He could suffer another setback

It would be awesome but those returns are way above what I'd expect. So fingers crossed

I have looked at the development model, Canada still pumping out more and better talent than any other country.
The myth that Canada's development isn't good or being passed is based on nothing at all, it is pure fiction.
Maybe you should look at what is actually happening rather than made up narratives in your fantasyland mind.

On top of the development program, there's also the major incentive of NCAA play.
In Canada, you commit your whole life to hockey and just hope it works out. If not, well....that's your life wasted. In the USA, you get a free college education at a top tier college along the way.

Another myth, if you want an education playing in the WHL doesn't prevent that at all.
