How does that help Calgary, as the Jets know 100% he’s a rental.
Lindholm well knows if he doesn’t sign he’s likely going somewhere for a few months. Since he’d be on the road anyway half the time, his family is not uprooted, they’ll simply move when he signs elsewhere.
|
It’s insane they may be trying to re-sign him at all. He should be sold to the highest bidder and we retain as much as needed to boost the return.
But if I am him I have as much of an issue with the Jets not being a contender as much Winnipeg sucking as a city to live in.

Expecting more after already being offered the Bo Horvat deal (overpayment) indicates to me that he wants out of Calgary more than he cares about the 4m over 8 years.

I love Lindholm and just got a brand new jersey with his name on it less than a year ago. With that said, I think the Flames dodged a bullet with him not signing on the line if their offer was anything over 8-8.5/year.
Keep him for now and get ready for a bidding war, the same should apply for Hanifin. Retain whatever salary you need to in order to maximize the returns.

He’s on pace for 56 points and is -1.
$9mm per year is laughable. The guy is delusional. This is an easy decision. Move him and sooner the better.

To be fair if his teammate can land 10.5 and play terribly, then Lindholm has a good reason to think he's worth 9

Lindholm wasn’t over PPG for 5 seasons and scored over 100 points with Bennett and Duclair as his linemates.
He’s not better than Zibanejad, Larkin, Scheifele, etc.
Poor comparison.

Giving him an extension shouldn't even be in the thought process.

I actually think I'd rather lose Lindholm for nothing than sign him to a deal worth $9m AAV

Nah, Lindholms gone. Dude can't even get up to play for his next contract. At least Johnny and Tkachuk put up performances to command their demands. Lindholm right now would be lucky to take home 7m

I was gonna say more interesting discussion is what do people think his market worth actually is? I think about 6-7mm per over 5 years, something like that. 8 year deal should be $6mm or lower.

If you look at Lindholm as a whole and not just this season, he is definitely worth more than 7M on the open market. I think he will get 7.5-8.5 and even at that I think the Flames are dodging a bullet.

This is when GMs get into trouble. Why would we pay Lindholm for what he did 2 or more years ago?
This is a what have you done for me lately or pay for projection kinda league. Lindholm cost himself millions by not taking Calgary’s money I think. He’ll still get a good contract but not in the realm of what the Flames were offering.

I don't think he's worth $9M, and I think he may be overplaying his hand. For that reason, I don't think this will be a sign and trade. The price teams pay for him will be purely as a rental, because he's going to test the market to learn that his expectations are a bit high (probably 1M high).
Hanifin I think will be a sign and trade.
Tanev will be a rental, but to a market with a strong chance of re-signing him (e.g. Toronto)
Lindholm will be a pure rental.

So you would pay a 56 point player that’s -2 about $8mm per season?
He’s more than $1mm high.

When he hits 115 points as a pending UFA he can ask for it
